Turboing a 16v 1.3

Hi there I don't own a micra but am thinking of putting the engine in a mini but I want to add a turbo too

Can some of you guys shred some light on what I need to turbo a 1.3 16v please thanks

A keyboard and the search function...

It gets asked about 40,000 times a day.... There's plenty of threads and guides on how and how not to do it.

First point of call should be finding a low mileage good condition cg13 from an auto micra, (semi closed deck)

Next clutch fly and box from a manual car.

Then source the ecu..... You'll need at the bare minimum a nistune ecu and map, if not a standalone.

With a stand alone you can go to speed density mapping which is multitudes more accurate and easy to drive than any mass flow derived ecu map.
Uses map sensor, iat sensor, crank and cam position and throttle position to determine exactly how much fuel to add at what times.

Next will be injectors and rail, you'll need minimum of sr20 injectors on custom fuel rail, decent sized pump and good fuel lines.
Next I'd look at what power you're looking for.

Under 150bhp is safe on the stock engine, any more than this for longevity, you'll need forged pistons. They're not cheap.

Budget for a head gasket rebuild set too.

I would fit some arp head studs whilst in there, the escort rs turbo set is a direct fit.

Only now do you need to consider the turbo.

Too small and you risk it kicking in too soon and bending a rod.

Too big and you'll never spool it.

The general consensus is that the t25/28 derivatives are about right for high rpm power, td04 sized are good for mid range torque. But it's personal choice.

Manifold next, tubular? Modified glanza kit? Log? Modified stock manifrank? Lol the choice is yours.

Again do you want top mount, low mount, remote mount?

Intercooler next, not too big so as to avoid lag and boost drop.
Mine is from an audi tt and is tiny. But it works.

Piping etc
Then ***mapping *** the most important bit.

Rolling road by someone who has done one or two before.... Not your mate with a laptop....

Have fun...

well said @Antony , my only query:

I have searched and searched on here regarding head bolts and never seen this before?! Whose actually fitted these? I've only just rebuilt my engine and with consultation of various people I fitted standard as they weren't aware of any ARP's that fit.

That's because people don't look hard enough.

Look up ARP part number 151-4203.

Ciscos site has the info.... But if you measure the length and thread of the cg bolts and call arp.... They will tell you that the escort rst ones are the same.
