The right turbo?

Hi I've got an opportunity to get a reaaal cheap turbo, a GT 1749 is that OK for a 1.0 Micra and later for a 1.4? Will it need an exhaust wastegate or anything else?

i ran 2 gt1549,s the 17 has a bigger compressor eh, should be ideal for a daily cg

YUHUUUUU!!!! looks like im getting a turbo hahaha chuffed atm ill get some pics up now, I know ill need a blow off valve but will i need an exhaust wastegate specially put in? not sure if im explianing right. ive seen some 4 cylinder engines with 5 exhaust tubes when turbo, whats that? gonna do some research

no built-in wastegate there eh, praps it a vari-vane type ? gt17v (vnt)

Thing is it has an actuator, so if there no wastegate what's it connected to? I haven't been able to find anything online about this turbo. Its a GTA 1749v

yes the V denotes vnt eh (vane type, ecu/vacuum controlled) you will be hard pressed to control the boost level

Damn, is it worth keeping the turbo or going for a different one? I'll be using a megasquirt ecu, can't find anyone who has tuned variable geometry turbo system though

you could fit an external w/g, or develop a megasquirt vane control system

yeh, running it fully open would be very forgiving on the engine, albeit very laggy

Yeah, I'm looking at maybe locking the vanes open or adjustable by cable until I find a sweet spot. I would like to try and control by vacuum but its pretty complicated

here,s a vid of an actuator through the gears, works pretty much like a w/g eh, held shut till about 2k then jerked open and then relaxed a bit
