The Mean Green Track Machine

Hi guys welcome to my blog of our k11 Micra 1.3 track car build we have massive plans for this car so decided I would begin to make a blog to back up my YouTube channel that I post vlogs on to show things that didn't quite get in to the videos

So our Micra started life as a bog standard 1.3 that has been used a daily and paid no special attention

So our story starts when we first picked her up and got her home this is how she started life in our hands

We her back around 89 mile home with no overheating or drama apart from the fact the drivers window came off the rails so it was a very windy trip home on the motorway

Work started quite quickly as we started to remove the interior of the car to make space for future plans

so as you can tell from the pictures we had itchy feet so we removed everything that would potentially hurt the overall performance of this track born micra!

so the first major modification we did was the installation of the pulsar gtir shifter, as u can see from both pics, the throw is very minimal. Highly Recommended mod if you havent yet done it!

My main task being engine work I began to strip the engine down and get it ready for the mods to come

Just by removing the rocker cover it was plain to see by the amount of sludge build up that this car hadn't been serviced very regularly at all time to get the head off and see what's going on inside

IMG_20181024_195539.jpg

Similar staining on the cams and other internal gear

With the head finally off it was clear to see this engine had served many years as a tool and been fed with the very cheapest of products the head gasket had seen better days too which would explain the loss of coolant

With the rocker cover off it was clear to see why there were pools of oil in the spark plug tubes
the seals were scrap
So I asked about on here and found that alot of people say it's not worth replacing them due to them being hard to find and expensive

I was suggested to get another rocker cover and tape the plug tubes up to stop them leaking

Not wanting to half do this build I began to strip down the rocker cover drilling out the riveted in separator plate and removing the old plug seals

With this seeming like it was going to be a part that might fail every now and then I bought replacements after sourcing who originally produced them for nissan and having some produced for us

After getting the cover back from powder coating my gosh what a difference just look at that colour !

I filed the lettering back off to leave it bare metal which looks great against the fresh powder coat

You can really see the metal flake when the light hits it

cylinder head back after being acid dipped new stem seals and skimmed I played about with starting to polish the ports I understand it's not properly porting and polishing before people get critical but it's something I wanted to give a go quite happy with the results from a quick sand down and polish up

Before

After

Little update pistons all shiney and ready to go and the block has its first coat of paint on
IMG_20181119_114201.jpg

Now trying desperately to source some cylinder head bolt washers as the originals have gone walkies in the acid bath when the head was cleaned...... Never knew they would be so hard to come across

So I've been looking in to new cams for the turbo build but in all honesty I'm lost how on earth do I work out what angle and lift I require ?
Any help appreciated

not really worth camming a turbo imo, you spend £££,s extra whereas raising the boost level costs nothing and has the same affect

After the car is built in also going to be in need of mapping now I have heard alot about fusion Motorsport but getting my car 2hrs over to them and then back is going to be a problem so I thought I would ask now anyone know anywhere around West Midlands that can sort a Micra out ?

Leave it with me brother!

So little teaser for you guys popped the head and rocker cover in place to get a feel for how it looks no bolts or cams or anything so don't get too excited not even the correct manifold placement haha but I am stupidly happy with how it looks what you guys think

I may have ignored previous advice if we're going to do it may as well go all the way so new reprofiled cams are now in sitting pride of place on top of the now reinstalled shiney head

What specification did you have them re-profiled to and what turbo are you running?

So after being told I would never be able to get my hands on the JDM march mid spoiler
"Unicorn part" or the march plate holder

After a bit of persistence I've managed to get my hands on 2 plate surrounds and the mid spoiler I was searching for

And to top it off the jap lights as well

I'm a happy bunny can't wait to get it painted and on the car !

It's going to look awesome !!!

What you guys think ??

Very nice, I wondered who that kit was going to :)

What spec GT2860R did you go with in the end (62trim or 76trim turbine)?

New to the forum (have a K14). Ex Nissan employee, around the time of the K11. Love modified (rally) versions and yours is looking insane! Fair play to you. You've even painted the cam cover 'right'!
