Two pistons, one dead and one its way out. Thinking it may not have been enough to put that much oil into the mix? They have not gone all the way through! So I would of thought that would have been safe? The first cylinder had the H/G leak? Anyone want to make comment on the H/G?

oooof, were you using 10/40 of 5/30 gravy to lubricate :D micra pistons dont like boost much do they. glad i didnt see my turbo build through, sometimes giving up is winning lol.

you considered forged ones?

nah, its DET that they dont like hoop, i boosted well over 20 psi with my first T15 setup (and they were 11.5:1 c/r 1.0 pistons :) )
you cant beat driving a CG+T imo, i ragged mine fairly hard as a daily for months without a problem, and thought the engines were bulletproof ,but then i raced a motorbike  everyone i,ve spoken to who detted a piston did it when racing another car, so avoid the det and the pistons will be fine :)
(which is why i,ve opted for a nistune)

Out of interest, how DO you avoid det? That where the timing changes come in?

  • high octane fuel
  • high boost could max out the stock MAF and cause dangerous lean-out so may require bigger MAF to cope
  • anything to keep inlet air temps low (big intercooler, insulated inlet components)
  • upgraded fuel pump & injectors to supply enough fuel upto max load to prevent dangerous lean out
  • maintain a suitable AFR by richening fuel map and retard timing as boost & load increases (done various ways such as ecu remapping)
  • correct cooler spark plugs for the specific setup so its not too hot to pre-ignite and not too cool that it fouls up

so, my head gasket has turned up! I checked my head and no warp which is great. Bought some tools to give her love. torque wrench and various other things. Need my pistons and new gear nob to turn up... Bought gaskets for exhaust..shame I wanted them for the inlet mani... silly me! Hoping the parts come this week, as she needs to be useable to drive her to the new house in the next few weeks. REALLY worried about getting the timing right. see how I fare when I get there.

timing is dead easy if you get a strobe light:) (i think you saw mine when you came to look at the car)

T2 mate, yeah will be good too. I am in the process of getting her mint atm. Cleaning and de rusting. Got a new intercooler coming, Going to open up the bonnet and front grille to get more air in. Get the number plate on the side. Fitting the rear coilovers today. Will be no doubt ready for next month,
