Strange metal box

Hi,

I have a K12 convertable. Whilst checking the underneath I found a rectangular metal box mounted the to the end of the rear chassis member on the drivers side. On its underside it has two pillars protruding through grommets. The two pillars are joined together by a bridging strap.

Does anyone have any idea what purpose this box serves.

Thanks for the reply.

It's definitely not the heat shield as it is on the opposite side of the car to the heat shield.

It's a box of some sorts approx 4 inch x 2 inch x 2 inch.
