Slimothy's K11 Super S

Some of you might remember my super s which was sold to scouseboy, and these days owner by plum

Well, after owning Oscar, I moved on to a fabia vrs- which I hated

And then returned to the micra fold with a k12 160sr that I called Nigel

Last December I changed to an mx5 called Melvin- but it's just not a practical car, so its with great regret that I need to get rid...

And now I'm baaaaaaaack!
This time with a beaten up old Super S called Charlie!
He's a green 1995 N reg...

Picked him up last night, and managed a 2 1/2 hour drive home in the dark without drama.
Got plenty of problems though- main ones being that he's in desperate need of a service (virtually no oil in the engine and what little there was was black sludge!), and there doesn't seem to be a panel on the car that's managed to escape a scratch or a dent at some point in the last 19 years of its poor little life.

However- it was nice and cheap, only done 82k, and everything seems to work as it should (apart from the rear washer jet of course)
The crossmember is not only solid and rust free- but original too!
Sills have been patched slightly on drivers side, but it's a neat job, so no dramas there.

Will update with pics as I go along- but will no doubt need help with bits and pieces along the way from you guys :)
Pics will be added to my facebook album- which I've made public:

Loved it- but aftermarket parts are impossible / expensive, so things like induction and exhaust were all custom, Coilovers were £800+ for budgets! And wheel fitment is a b***h!
Still have a 160Sr (the wife's got one), and touch wood it's been fine

Typical French motor then.

Passenger door has a whacking great gash in it, and is starting to rot under the wing mirror mount.
Unfortunately the N/S wing is also riddled with rot- but thankfully the crossmember and sills seem to be in good nick!

Engine bay needs a damn good clean and poor little fella needs a major service (hopefully on the cards tomorrow!)...

All being well, if I can get the engine running right, and the bodywork fit enough for a respray, then this will be another Super S saved from the crusher!
If not then he'll be an interior and bumpers/spoiler doner for a Super S rep.

Either way- this project has been kick started with one thing in mind... Wheels.

Most normal people buy wheels to fit their car... I've got plans to make the car fit the wheels (which I'm gonna keep a bit of a mystery for now).... So maybe widearch?... ;-)

So the drivers window was driving me nuts- squeeks on the way down and judders 2/3 the way up.

I expected this to be a simple case of slack runner bolts- but everything appears to be tight.

I've run some service lube down the rubber side strips, which has eased the squeeking a little- but the judder is ever present :-(

Any thoughts?

Looking at the video it seems to slightly buckle when juddering, maybe a bit tight on the runners somewhere.
Could also be in the wrong groove on the runners, had that on mine, made it very tight, easy fix if so.

The rubber kept coming out the metal runner allowing the window to go into the wrong groove at the bottom. Refitted the rubber and stuck a dab of glue on to keep it in place, then fit the glass into the proper groove. ;)

Hmmm, I'll have to take another look and see if I can figure out what you mean- did look like the rubbers were in the right place though *scratches head*

Have a look at the rubbers when operating the window, if its doing what happened to me it will be obvious.
Mine started in the correct groove but twisted half way up on operation, sending the glass into the wrong groove.
Also, see if the metal strip is not bent inwards slightly, that would tighten the window up on operation.

Engine starts fine, isn't using any coolant or oil, and revs nice and hard- however, the car is kicking a tonne of soot and water out the back and there seems to be timing chain rattle (which I was hoping would go after a good service).
I've also descovered that while the crossmember seemed intact, it is infact rotting from the back side upper edge (noticed it while doing the oil change :-( )
New crossmember ordered, but a little worried about the soot and water issue- going to do a compression test asap to rule out HG failure, but hoping it's just because the cars just stood not being used.

What did you hate about the VRS? Always thought they'd be nice cars.

Seats are uncomfortable, car was more unreliable than the fiats I've owned, handled like a river barge, poor rear visibility, really terrible traction control (that's not quite off even when it's off), shoddy power delivery, and bad build quality on the interior plastics.... Would do 130mpg @ 55 in 6th with the cruise on though :p

Only kept it 10 weeks - then did the sensible thing and traded it for the 160sr :)

Didn't get round to doing the throttle body as I got carried away sorting the rocker cover:

Chain seems to be in good condition, and taught- so that has set my mind at rest about that...
