Silvia14's Super S

Hi all

Well I thought it was about time to create my own Blog for the wee beasty lol

Ive was looking for a cheap Jap car to use as a daily over the winter while my KE70 Corolla hibernates and I try and get on with it as a project!
I wanted something that was at least a bit interesting so i didnt get bored............. Ive always had a soft spot for the Micra Super S...................... so i bought one!! :p

Sooooo I bought a 1993 Super S from a member on here for £185 :grinning:

Well the car didnt have Tax or MOT and its pretty high mileage at 158k but one of the 3 owners had it for 14 years and it was pretty well looked after. All it should need for a new MOT is a few small patches of welding underneath and maybe a few bulbs, so its not to bad hopefully!
The suspension has already been replaced for some off a lower milage car.
It seems to drive fine with no smoke or strange noises so i think im good for a good while yet hopefully.

Body work is pretty good but has suffered a few small patches of rust. I think the arches are a little crusty under the Golf GTI plastic arches but Im looking at going wide anyway (you will see why in the pics lol). I even got a mint bonnet free with the car although in a different colour along with some other spares.

Inside its mint apart from a small scuff on the drivers bolster and 1 of the rear seat sections being a different colour, but im not worried about that!

All in all I think its gonna be a lot of fun for not much cash!

Heres some pics....................

A few spares in the boot too

There is a few little rusty bits but nothing I really worried about and ill sort them in time!

041120101040.jpg

I had a bit of fun with my Corolla wheels and it could be running these at some point while the corolla is in storage! Just needs some hub adapters and some WIDER arches as well as a bit of lowering!!

And the corolla enjoying its daily driving retirement lol

I got round to doing my first mod of fitting a propper air filter to replace the dubious fitting of the old one!

It was like this.................
031120101028.jpg

031120101029.jpg

I'm not sure its gonna filter much?? So I changed it to this.............
061120101071.jpg

061120101072.jpg

061120101073.jpg

I also removed all the unnessessary pipework that went to the old airbox................
061120101074.jpg

Then i fitted some tunes............... I had to being an Ex car audio technician but i wasnt worried about a massive system!
IMG_0356.jpg

IMG_0357.jpg

It sounds good even with the standard 4 speakers in there with the sub added! (Y)
The sub box is also on a quick release plug so i can remove it when not required.

Ive also bought a set of 14" BBS wheels nice and cheap but a little tatty! Came with good tyres though so they will do nicely to get it off the 13" Steel rims.
IMG_0362.jpg

As they need to be referbished anyway I may well have a little fun with some colour. :p
What do you think?.................. (Photoshop)
LowOnBBS-AllBlue.jpg

Ide love to get some wide 13" Jap rims or Mini rims for a cheaper alternative but the BBS will do for now. I may still use my Corolla wheels but I do need to get some wider arches for that, so it will have to wait for a bit!

I also found a crack in my Exhaust manifold so i bodged it up with paste for now...............
IMG_0371.jpg

But with a little hunting on here i contacted Frank and we are in the middle of sorting out one of his modded O/E ones!
attachment.php

After this Im hoping to order the rest of an exhaust system to finish of the breathing.

I also had an Issue with the wipers not stopping once started! I sorted this by simply replacing the wiper relay that I got from ebay
IMG_0369.jpg

Ive also just had the welding done now so come payday ill be able to MOT and Tax it and get it on the road.

I did however get chance to drive it to and from my friends workshop (yes you can do this) for the first time since buying it and it seems to go rather well!
Bring on the BUDGET FUN!!!! :p

More to come!!

Hey, hey
Welcome and it'll be very interesting to see what way you're going to go :) I'd be regular here I feel :)

Ah... I wouldn't go for blue rims... Black or white... But it's only up to you of course (Y)

white rims would look nice!!! what arches are those....looking at fitting a set to mine as the flat sides need a bit more sustenance ;-)

The arches are off a MK2 Golf GTI

I was only going for the coloured wheels as i have a bit of a sence of humor and wanted something a little different! Black/White etc etc have been done to death!

I know its a bit Marmite but i think it will be a bit of fun :p

Its only until i get some better wheels then i may do something different LOL

Im a bit of a random "Wheel Whore"

blue does look nice thought :D
are the arches straight fit??? they look really nice

The arches were already on the car when I bought it but they look like they have only had minor trimming on the ends!

As for the black and orange idea, I was trying to avoid that colour due to the influx of "Driftworks Wanabes" that came about s few years ago! Being a member on there i would get some stupid comments lol!
Also I've seen orange wheels on a black micra on here before!

Something different is required :)

UPDATE

Well unfortunately it failed its first MOT with me!!..............

.............However, it was only a 50p sized bit of welding i missed first time round and an exhaust hanger!!

GOOD NEWS PEOPLE............. the wee beasty is now fully TAXED and MOTed as of this week!! :p
IMG_0444.jpg

Now its actually on the road Ive been able to drive it properly for the first time since ive owned it and it seems to be ok! It has a little bit of a flat spot but it is in need of a service and it still has a not so good manifold fitted!

I do now however have one of Franks modded manifolds ready to go on, and hopefully next payday i should be able to order the exhaust to be fitted at the same time! :grinning:

Ive not done any more mods to it as of yet as my time and money has been spent just getting it on the road! I did however take it to work today, (Im a Valeter for a local Honda Dealer), and give it a quick tidy up.........................

IMG_0451.jpg

IMG_0452.jpg

Im still a little undecided on the wheels but i am now thinking of selling the BBS as Im not really a fan of them for this car and reverting back to Plan A!!
I will prob use the money from the wheels to buy some PCD hub adapters so i can use my Watanabes on it for that real "JDM Look" :p (See first post)

I think it was this black Jap tuned Porsche I spotted that turned me back lol (Y)
porsche17.jpg

............. can anyone say Moooooooody!!!

Anyway thats about it for now............. Ill keep u posted!!

Well Im just waiting for some photos to be sent to me from my mates camera we used, and then an Update will be born

UPDATE!!

Finally I have another update for you all!

Ive been quite busy this month doing some work to my Super S......

First off I got round to getting rid of the rusty bonnet that came on the car and replacing it with the free one the seller gave me! As the car is to be built on a budget I decided to have a go at painting it myself with some good old spray cans:
IMG_0506.jpg

IMG_0511.jpg

Not perfect but good enough for me lol
IMG_0512.jpg

Then I got round to buying a Peter Lloyd exhaust system!! It arrived very quickly and packaged well! Il looks pretty good quality too!
I got the apprentice to fit it for me in work and we took these pics....................
IMG_0544.jpg

IMG_0545.jpg

IMG_0546.jpg

IMG_0479.jpg

We also fitted the "Frankenspeed" manifold too and removed my standard cracked one!!
IMG_0549.jpg

IMG_0550.jpg

IMG_0467.jpg

And we also De-catted the first cat to make it completely freeflow (Ill get another good one before the next MOT lol)
IMG_0266.jpg

IMG_0273.jpg

IMG_0228.jpg

Something Missing lol
IMG_0553.jpg

Ready for assembly..........
IMG_0552.jpg

IMG_0551.jpg

IMG_0493.jpg

IMG_0492.jpg

IMG_0491.jpg

IMG_0490.jpg

IMG_0489.jpg

Unfortunately there is a bracket missing on the car so the backbox sits a bit wonky till I get another welded on......
IMG_0488.jpg

I am very impressed with this exhaust setup and it really has made a difference to the responsiveness of the engine! Sounds good too lol
Ill try and get some vids up soon.

I also cleaned and polished it all up and "borrowed" the 14s of my mums Micra until I sort my own lol
IMG_0554.jpg

IMG_0556.jpg

IMG_0555.jpg

I also got some random stickers for fun (inc some MSC ones!!) and got some little JDM widgets I saved from some of my old cars.............

IMG_0596.jpg

IMG_0598.jpg

And just to finish, a funny pic I took with my mates cars when we went karting with my local car club lol
IMG_0571.jpg

Hope you like it so far........ more to come!!!!

this is going very good mate

LOL gotta love random jap tat lol

Well with the new exhaust fitted its SOOOOO much more free reving and wants to get to the limiter so much faster! High in the revs the car just goes off on one and makes it really fun to drive! There is a little flat spot midrange which apparently the Air Filter can cause but im hoping it wont be so bad after a good service!
I have taken a few of my Non-believing friends out in it and they are suitablely impressed for such a little and cheap car........ We're all normally used to going fast in powerful cars so a small wee thing that impresses must be good lol

UPDATE

Well things have been a little slow lately as Ive needed my cash for other things........... but I have tried to continue with the wee beasty!

First off, I went to take some pics one eve for no reason..................

222592_10150165141699092_511144091_6728927_1132258_n.jpg

Unfortunately I managed to get some quite harsh cleaning products on the bonnet and ruin my new paintwork :( ............. however, I may have a fix on the way which doesnt include another respray (Y)

Im probably going to paint the sills in satin/matt black to match in with the arches and hide the welding repair a little better too.

Ive also taken a little vid of how the exhaust sounds now its on! Ill try to get some under load too..........
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgVxrIMLZjI

More updates soon.

UPDATE

Yes Ive been up to stuff again lol

As mentioned in my last Update I did a boo boo and ruined my new paintwork on my bonnet with some harsh cleaning products that dont like aerosol paint it seems.

229190_10150169553224092_511144091_6769630_3616660_n.jpg

I also said I found a cheap fix that didnt involve another respray!! So here it is (Y)..............
229567_10150169554259092_511144091_6769642_7587812_n.jpg

Its carbon fibre effect vinyl, but not the cheap crapy printed stuff you used to get. This stuff is fully 3D and textured and looks pretty damn close to the real thing!! I got a 1.5m x 2.0m roll for £29.99 posted to it still keeps to the "cheap" theme of the project!! (Y)

Sooooo bonnet off............
224160_10150169555239092_511144091_6769656_2972334_n.jpg

And place in workshop/kitchen lol Clean the surface...............
224280_10150169555414092_511144091_6769662_2510877_n.jpg

Cut sheet oversized to allow for trimming................
230109_10150169555639092_511144091_6769668_2779641_n.jpg

Commence sticking (this wasnt easy.....took about 2 hours to get it shaped without bubbles or creases!!!!!!)
230727_10150169555799092_511144091_6769674_4374309_n.jpg

But the finished product looks great........

228384_10150169560189092_511144091_6769769_7178969_n.jpg

It even reflects light like real Carbon fibre!!

224045_10150169561334092_511144091_6769796_5681619_n.jpg

And fitted back onto the car...... looks subtle enough with a bit of something going on lol..........

Im really happy with the outcome.......... and I have some off cuts lol!!!!

I think that looks all right, and as Shaun noted, cracking job of getting it on.

Get yer angle grinder waved in the direction of your springs!

Cheers guys......... I know Carbon Bonnets are a bit Marmite but i think on a black car they can look quite good + I needed something to cover the crappy paint = Job Done!! (Y)

And YES Mark........... lows will be coming soon hopefully!

Also not a fan of carbon fibre but that looks really good on your black car. Will you be doing the same to the arches, I think it would suit them well(Y)

I did think of that but i dont think it would stick to the textured plastic well and it would be an absolute arse to do lol............. so no i wont haha.

I may do some other details tho like the rear handle or something??

Mate that looks frigging mint, It looks real!!

Muchos respect to you, I've played with vinyl but that looks much harder!

Well done and pat on the back ;)

UPDATE

Heres a few better pics.............

Well i finally got round to it........... ITS LOWERED!!!!!

Massive thanks to my mate with his chopping experience helping out!!

We cut 2 coils off the front and 2 off the back.......... it sits really nice now and no rubbing or funny noises!! Unfortunately the bolts on the front were a bit seized so we cut the springs bit by bit in situe on the car! It worked in the end lol.

Heres the pics.............

I didnt want it sitting too low causing any problems but just to get the arch gap closed up! I think its perfect!!

OMG, that IS freakin' awesome. Budget and subtle but somehow as good as it gets (Y). You may be getting one of my photo requests very soon...

Despite hating the wheels, they sit perfectly in the arches now! I need those arch strips. What are they off?
