Respray

To respray a whole car it'll cost you £2000 and beyond, you'd save money if you didn't want the door and boot shuts resprayed, like most things it isn't the cost of the parts it's the labour, for a full respray so much of the car has to be disassembled if they are doing a proper bona fide top job. I will be getting some work done on my car, with the exception of the roof, the whole tailgate and not the shuts the car is going to be resprayed, the cost of that is £1200.

That price includes the cost of me wanting the number plate holes in the front bumper and tailgate deleted so that I can have the non standard width number plates mounted without screws, they look so ugly.

Wrapping to change the colour per se, yes I'd agree more economical, I wouldn't but hey it's not my car!!!

The way I see the whole respray/cost/justification subject is, if you've got a much newer car most likely you aren't going to need a respray, we're talking about Micra K12's last made 2010, ten year old cars are more likely to require some form of refreshing. I've had people saying I must be crazy spending £2000+ on a respray why not just go and buy a new car, if I could buy a brand new K12 I would, I drive them because I like them love them not because I cannot afford anything more expensive, I can but buying something newer just because I can is materialistic I suppose, to go to the expense of respraying an at least ten year old car must mean you intend to keep the car and adore it and are not hoping to recoup the cost in resale value because common sense says you aren't going to, you do it for the love

Exactly my thought, mine is a 2006 car which I bought brand new. You hit it on the head. I would definitely respray the same colour excluding inside doors and boot.

Your car looks immaculate in your avatar, like it doesn't need a respray, your colour does "pop" out more or should I say my colour doesn't "pop' as much as a black or darker colours and off course we can't see the little details or faults only we know are there.

As you said originally in your question, the variables are the paint spec and the quality of the workmanship, I'd say the prep is 80% of the cost in terms of man hours if the job is done right, the quality of the prep is the difference between a good and bad respray, unless the sprayer is completely rubbish and messes up the actual painting too, I don't think you do that job for an easy life, it's a god forsaken smelly dirty job and all the guys I know that do it professionally say they do it for the buzz of creating something special and have immense pride in their work.

I'd love to do a bare shell respray on a K12, if I won the lottery, if I thought I could make money from it (which sadly I don't anymore) I'd set up a company that specialised in all things Micra's and K12's and offer bare shell resprays, gearbox, engine and rear disc conversions, interior re-trims etc etc, sort of something like Gas Monkeys in terms of their skills and abilities however concentrating just on Micra's and specialising K12's.

Thanks. It's got some dents and scratches and someone keyed the driver door panel quite deep.
