Replacing LEDs in instrument cluster (super S)

Eliot

Ex Super S Owner
Hi all,

I have a 1.3 Super S

I noticed the other day the light on half the tachometer and half the speedo were very dim, i think this is because an LED somewhere in the middle has gone causing a fading effect across those two dials.

Therefore I am looking to replace them with RED leds to match the colour of the car (Y).

Anyway I took apart the instrument cluster housing which left the dials and wires poking out the back. I then put it back together as i didn't know how to remove the speedo and cable and i didnt want to cock it up

I just need to know how easy it is to remove the speedo cable and replace the LED lights as i couldnt find anything on these forums about it.

looking forward to replies,

Cheers

you need to take the clip plug connectors then to take the speedo cable you just have to squeeze the end at pull it off. its easy when you take it off a few times. it uses 286 bulbs and the bulb holders just twist off and then you pull the leds out of the bulb holder and put new ones in.

I replaced the T5 bulbs with these LEDs. They work, but be careful which colour LEDs you choose as needles are orange and green or blue LEDs don't light the needles up.

My speedo is face-lift digital so only one connector. The bulbs just twist out with the holder.
I've got spare Red leds, T5 / 286 replacements if you need some as in photo. Also yellow, blue, pink, white, Green. PM for details.
