Replacement engine required CG10DE 1.0 2004

I previously posted regarding my 2004 K12 lemon. Well I finally got it back from the garage and despite having a refurbed cylinder head it still smokes & runs poorly. The mechanic has diagnosed broken rings (without removing the head again or block) as he says it's down on pressure in one of the cylinders. It really does smoke badly but only after idling for a minute or so at lights etc, on a run it isn't smoking at all so I think he's probably right on that diagnosis. It has only done 32k and isn't a quiet engine either.
Since he's done the head and replaced it he's not willing to stand the labour to re do the work and cost involved in taking the head off again to get at the piston rings and wants another £500 to re ring & repair.
I'm now on the lookout for a good engine that I can put my newly refurbed head onto or even a complete engine in good condition.
It's almost definitely a CG10DE 1.0L engine, will any of the bigger engines such as a 1.2 go in?
Anyone got a good 'un for sale?

it would have to be a coilpack CG10 pharte (unless you want to headswop etc)
and the CR,s have the p/s pump and alternator brackets cast into the block iirc (re 1.2/1.4) so yours may be from the k11 partsbin
where abouts are you ?

So how can you tall what engines fitted frank I havent looked to be honest but from reading threads regarding the early k12,s its looking interesting. If its the later k11 coilpack engine thats in there will that mean it has all the sensors ect on that engine if removed from a k11 curious or will there be some swapping and jiggery pokery involved. Obviously the power steering pump is of no use ect but regarding the early k12 timing chain problems it could be a cheaper alternative in fitting one of these as opposed to doing chain.......

i posted a pic of the cr engine in your "lemon" thread iirc ken, the alt and p/s pump brackets are cast into the block, and the head is very different

problem with the car is now sorted....a new engine and she's running sweet as a nut.
The problem with the garage is ongoing and gets worse. on the way to the mechanic to swap engines it overheated & blew the head gasket.
when it was removed we found two of the "new" stretch bolts had different heads (star drive and hex ), the star drive ones were used where the gasket blew. One was loose and when the head was removed the bolt & thread were covered in blue "plastic" which we are presuming was thread lock.
Garage are still denying any of this was their doing.
I took the head to a good local engineer who specialise in head refurbs and they spotted that the same bolt hole was all chewed up in the allot sort of where the head of the bolt meets the cyl head.
went back to the garage, showed him this new damage and he all but accused me of taking a drill to it & damaging it myself.
Am now fed up of trying to be reasonable so it's off to the small claims court.
And yes I took photo's etc. so I've got proof.

I will have to find the engine code on it then take it from there I think, 2004 the CG engine is the one I dismantled and sent bits down to you aint it out of my 2002 micra k11

mate that is really bad stuff and indeed you should go to a court and you also have the word of whoever helped u change engine and then the word of the engineer that looked over it... i think you have a good case and why on earth would you take a drill to it bloody idiots at that garage sew them!

Did a small county court small claims online at the weekend.
£70 to claim £1500 which was what I paid them, the cost of a replacement engine and labour.
We'll let the judge decide.

good luck pharte (Y) and thanks for the pics, it is a CR eh, and somewhat different to the CGA  (the valves look bigger to me, food for thought :grinning:)

CR engine in mine as well ho hum

well, you,ve got a weldfilled head like me and EBB did eh ken  and shimless buckets too, like EBB,s mod

I'm not particularly technical but the engineers I took it to to ask them to check it said that the shim bucket thing had been ground down as well as the other bodges that were done to it.
A question I haven't raised is if they replaced the valves and seats in the head, i'm assuming it was only those two that don't have a nissan logo on them, why is there more carbon deposit on the "new" valves than the others. The engine did a maximum of 50 miles from getting it repaired to removing it as scrap, wouldn't they be cleaner than the others and have less carbon deposits on them?

the 2 inlet valves look a bit cleaner eh, and they have probably fettled the buckets to gain the correct clearance

What eh ? I was hoping it had the cg in there lol then I could have just swapped it with a little 1.4 unit I know of, I dont want to build another one from the shell up, done that with the last 3 ive had im beging to think I have nissan kit cars, mind you it would be an interesting project do you know of any thats been done yet frank

the CR,s have a vtec thingy ken so the ecu/loom would be very different i guess (but i said your coilpack to CG conversion would be a mission, but you rattled the job off no probs iirc ken :grinning:)

ah yes but in its favor engine and gearbox mounts were the same cable clutch and cable throttle, k12 hydraulic clutch and daft fly by wire accelerator it would mean looking at it as a kit car so all i would salvage is the body and seats, then retro fit everything else but then again what a project it would make, maybe a 1999 loom in there so i can get electric clocks good starting point thinking about it now lol.

all now "sorted" a small claims summons got me an enraged phone call which in turn led to a long conversation, discussion, negotiation and a cheque for £550.00.

It pretty much covered what I'd paid him for less part of the price of the service.
I'm not vindictive and the majority of what I'd paid him for the work was refunded.
Although I'd put the full cost of his bill plus the full cost of the replacement engine and fitting plus another £100 in expenses in the writ I wasn't out of pocket with his refund.

What's the difference between a CGA and a CR 1 litre engine?

different manifolds and port spacings, single longer chain (cr) 2 shorter ones (cga), the alt and p/s brackets are cast into the block (cr), alloy sump (cr) to name a few :grinning:

I see, so would a 1 litre 2005 K12 feature a CR engine also? This thread has made me a little worried about my engine, hopefully I will have more luck with mine than pharte had with his!

I think my original engine problem was down to the previous owners lack of maintenance.
That said it had only done 2,000 miles since she drove it out of the dealers showroom (used, not new).
Although the car had receipts for tyre sand a wing mirror there was not a single stamp or receipt for servicing although it will have been done at the dealers before being sold again.
Everything is back up & running now and it has been an experience I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through.

I guess any engine will have problems if it isn't serviced properly. My K12 is 2nd hand also, and (touch wood!) my engine has been running fine so far... but I'll try and give it a service soon, just to be on the safe side. :)
