Rally bumpercam.

Here is complete footage from stage 2 of The Mini Tempest Stages, Longcross Test Track, Chobham viewed from a camera mounted in the bumper of our K11 rallycar. Sorry, Picture quality isn't great, but it was overcast and camera had already got wet!

We went on to win class A (up to 1400cc) and finish 27 O/A out of 80 cars, beating amongst others in our class Abi Mahmood in his ex-works K11 kit Micra and a very serious MG ZR with a very trick paddle shift sequential gearbox.

Admittedly, Abi did retire with alternator problems, but we had equal stage times on the first stage so I think it would have been close.

If anybody in the south wants to watch some top tarmac rallying, there is an event coming up called The Abingdon CAR-nival. Spectators are allowed (which is very rare for tarmac rallying in the UK) and there will be some very fast cars out. We have an entry, Matt Humphries may also be competing and Abi will be there in his kitcar. Come say hello! Link below;

What do you all think?

Nice.

Meet at Abingdon?

Yeah, sure. Like I said we'll be taking part, assuming we've got an entry. It fills up pretty quick. Come and say hello! Are you reasonably local to Abingdon? Be nice to put a face to a name. I'll let you know our car number when we know.

Reply to Anto Modded

The engine was dyno'd at 93bhp at the wheels, internally standard with Tomei cams and throttle bodies.

The reason we do well on rallies (apart from Wozza's driving) is to do with the width of the Micra and not having to slow down too much for chicanes, and the low weight of the Micra helps with thehandling and braking, see on the clip how much later than the 205 we were braking into the chicane.

I take it you dont use standard brakes though ?

At present they are Almera 252mm (I think!) vents front and Sierra solid discs rear with EBC Yellows. So 'reasonably' standard. We've never had any fading with this set up. We've recently took the servo off to get the throttle bodies on, which has obviously increased the effort required at the pedal. To fix this we're looking at fitting 280mm discs (Clio sport? same pcd etc.) and are looking for some suitable calipers. This will mean binning all our 14" wheels and going 15".................more expense!!

Reasonably - it's roughly an hour from me, if there are some fancy cars then I'm very up for a little road trip.
What are osts for spetators like?

Craig

Wow longcross track! My workshop is on the otherside of the road!

Craig prob is worth a trip to Abingdon - they hold a sprint and an autosolo there too and think it's the same weekend as the rally.....not got dates to hand though so please don't quote me on that!!

You're right Suze. Sprint and Autosolo are both held on Saturday 7th June, along with scrutineering and documentation for the rally. The rally takes place on Sunday 8th with car 1 starting stage 1 at 09.00.

There is camping there Saturday night, with beer, if you want to make a weekend of it.

Like I said before, its rare to be able to come and spectate at a tarmac rally down south. Where else will you be able to see Almera, Micra and 306 kit cars (Martin Jones' 306 Maxi is one seriously fast car), 6R4's a Stratos, Darrians and even a genuine RS200 amongst many, many others, being driven how they were meant to be driven. You can even come and wander around the service area. Oh, and at the moment there are currently 4 Micras on the rally entry list.(Y)

My brother and his daughter came to watch us last year and he paid £8 for the pair of them to get in. Or you could go and marshal and get close and personal for nowt.

Interesting, that is a bargainous price - I might see about competing on the Saturday, I don't think I will marshall, I'd like to have a really good nosey around the paddock and when I marshalled I was a bit detatched, had a great view though...
