Project MicrawR

Alright guys I thought I would post up a project thread instead of just putting everything into what did you do to your Micra today thread. Anyway about my Micra I wanted a daily that was cheap to run, insure and maintain and it had to be Japanese my Dad spoilt my other idea and he got a Honda Jazz and well you can't have two of the same vehicles in the family (well I don't think you can). So I was on the hunt for a 2nd facelift car I did want electric windows and it had to be manual. I spent a few weeks looking for one and well the ones that were for sale where all sheds if I'm honest I even drove to Birmingham to look at one and while it wasn't too bad the owner was an arse and wouldn't come down at all on his asking price. So I decided that it would be good having electric windows it was severely limiting my options so I looked for ones without and well I had literally 100s to look at all within about 15 miles of me. So I went to look at one which was about a 10 minute drive from me about an hour later (after some haggling) I was on my way to the post office to tax it and then home. First thing my mate did for me was this:

Those wheels were ordered then about two weeks later these arrived:

Then it was off to get them fitted

Another thing that was bugging me was I only had one headlight working and the aerial was too high soo with a bit of help from my friend we sorted that out

I also added some LED sidelights to go with the ultrabright headlights that I had got.

Now even without the coilovers the rears were rubbing slightly when going over speedbumps and with people in the car so it was off to Archenemy and this is the result:

Next week hopefully i'll have my top mounts here and then I can finally put my coilovers on and from there sort out a few issues with the paint

What I meant was it's like whatever car I get my Dad always wants the same one, when I was looking at Honda Jazz's I went on holiday I came back and my Dad had got one

I'm only kidding :) .... Haaaa I'd love to see my dad driving a micra daily :L
Ahhh that's anoying :-( you should look into buying an ice cream van.... Or a tank :) x

So I have to strengthen the rear turrets? how would I do that? a rear strut brace?

Are the rear suspension components actually coilover? Because the majority are spring and damper units (separate parts). Excuse me if that is a stupid question, the amount of people that don't understand the difference is quite high...

The fronts will obviously be coilover, if the rear are to in not sure what you'd do? @h701micra might have a clue or two

Yes I can confirm the rear are definitely a coilover as opposed to a seperate spring and shock with an adjustable winder for the springs the first picture of my coilovers are the rears the bottom ones are the fronts.

the (non rusted) turret should be strong enough for road use, but you may need to bash the arch a bit for clearance tho :)

What i'll do is measure the thickness of the shock with the dust cover and measure the thickness of the springs and see what the difference is

Sooo about time I updated this, I managed to get my coilovers on (with the help of R-Reg SR :D). The KSport Top Mounts I ordered wasn't exactly a bolt on job as the thread on the top of the coilovers is about 5mm too short, as they have a retaining nut that keeps the topmount in place so we came up with a temporary fix that was to use rear spring adjusters to keep the top mount against the spring cup. it worked but it was noisy as there wasn't any bearings that allowed the spring cup top mount to turn and it was just metal to metal, so I rang Gaz shocks to order there top mounts, they arrived and rather interestingly they had Fiesta Mk1 Stamped into them a quick check and they lined up perfectly with the holes. So it was off to R Reg's place again whipped off the shocks and top mounts and guess what? yep you guessed it the thread was too short yet again, so I decided to use both Gaz ones underneath and KSport ones in top with plenty of copper grease this time between the spring and cup, first top mount and second top mount and now it seems to be all good no horrible banging or graunching between them. I also fitted a Noddie Rod too which was a pain the arse as it needed to be grinded off which R Reg done a great job with. Pics will follow shortly

Are those the bridges down past the Ace Cafe? Looks awesome by the way, love the choice of wheels!
Yea they are, it's only a 5 minute drive for me so made sense to take some pics there. And thanks it was the first photoshop I saw with those wheels I knew I had to have them

Its a shame my K11 is off the road, it would have been awesome to meet up and grab some pics, its not often you see modded Micra's at the Ace.. I live 5 mins drive away as well (when I'm not at uni) so if I'm ever around I'll give you a shout and see if you're up for a meet :)
