Project K11 begins!

Have been around here for a few months now, but not posted much just been looking at some blogs :)

Well, have been looking for a bronze/ red k11 3 door, but everyone either sold or were too far away. Typed in "Nissan" and nearest first, and there was a 1.0 k11 3 door in white, for dirt cheap only 20 minutes drive away :)

It has a CV joint clicking (although the guy was putting it on full lock yesturday, and was not making any noises but he says it does normally) and all 4 tyres are pretty much duds. There is also quite a bad dent/ filler job on the drivers side rear wing above the wheel, but for a car with minimal rust as this, I don't think I could of done better for the money.

plans are straight away rust proof it. I have POR15 here from when I was going to rust proof my P10 Primera, but just too much work for me to remove all the suspension. With one of these I reckon I'll be able to tackle the job.

Super S kit, GA16DE, Coilovers, Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 alloys, ABS, disk brakes all around, Cosworth recaro front seats/ subtle re-trim for the interior... for now those are the plans :)

awesome starting point, rear arch does look messy but im sure your have it sorted in no time

whats your plans in the long run

and welcome to the k11 :)

ga16 is cheap, easy power...i put one in a similar looking k11, was heaps of fun.

may i ask, why the ABS, its probably gunna be more hassle than its actually worth, i like to call it Absolute Bull Sh!t :grinning:

Blimey guys cheers for the welcomes :)

I don't really know why I want ABS really, I just think it would be nice to have it but if you guys say it's not gonna be worth it, I will listen to you :)

I have registered on this forum http://sr20nation.com/ga16forum/forum.php? - I have chosen to go down a tuned GA16 route rather than SR20, want useable power rather than wheels spinning in a few gears, going to be getting an inlet plenum from a sentra too, so there won't be an airfilter box on the top of the engine :)

Man I actually am rather looking forward to getting to work on this car :) This is the car I've had (and will be keeping) for about 4 years now lol

_9185368.jpg

It's a P10 (plate is P10 FTW) Primera 2.0 SLX with a 128bhp SR20, The plan was to drive it for 6 months before the insurance hiked up to 4k, but I have decided, that as I am excited about this, and it's going to be cheaper, to just start driving this instead (I have my test soon, got cancelled about 3 weeks ago) - So yeah, I got nissan in my blood, well happy with this micra, and dont mind it looking entry spec, they look good even like this imo :)

Super S kit, rear wing and rust proofing the underneath are first plans, might leave it like that for a bit. Also, is there any sideskirts that are subtle out there for a K11? There weren't any optional ones were there?

mate your micra is funking awesome, love the whole look got the one on your avator (the larger pic) saved as my wallpaper :p

Welcome here John, now as owner. (Y)

I´ve been bitten a little by the "entry level" K11 bug too, though We´ll keep running the P11. That´s the wife´s job/commute car now, while I´m thrashing our K11 1.nothing to and from work.... Great fun, the little scoot is really amazing fun.

Sounds like you´ve got some plans for your´s. I have lots of plans, but low funds. Maybe my plans are rather dreams.... But, in time I guess something will happen. Have done some small titbits so far, Momo steering wheel (second hand), Momo knob (NEW !), colourcoded mirrors and hatch-handle, new summertires on secondhand 15`s, reconditioned alternator, new HT leads, headlight protectors.... Many small things. Maybe I´ll get the funds to some of the bigger. I got to believe. But still, might look like a kick in the but (no fault of mine), but a lot of fun, and some day she will be a treat.

Looking forward to following how your´s progress.

Welcome. Good luck with the plans. Funnily enough I went looking with a preference for a white one, but ended up with red. Funny how these things turn out.

why would your insurance hike up to 4k?

id keep the micra as it is, instead of wasting money on super s kits and such like spend the money on ga16 parts (not that theres many out there) ga16 is an odd ball engine, but like you suggested with the sentra plenum, tuning parts for ga16's are easier to come buy over the pond. all i did to mine was cold air intake, straight through exhaust system and an fse fuel regulator, it made 125bhp on the dyno, that was from the 112bhp ga16de...the only problem i had was snapping driveshafts and i put that down to too much grip from the clutch, think it was a stage 3 6 puck racing one, bit overkill but got it cheap!! if you have any questions about any stage of the build just drop me a pm, unlike many people on the forum, ive actually done a ga16 conversion, the problem i had when doing mine was alot of people could "talk"about a conversion but when it actually came down to it no one had a clue!:glare:

it's an insurance group 12 car the prim, and all the quotes have been around 3,400-5k I think, pretty mad but then Mum rang insurance up to get a deal, and she got one, where for 6 months I could be named on the family car (a pug 308) and the prim. At the moment, im quite buzzing to get this car on a role B)

few questions micramike

- What wiring loom out of what car did you use?
- Were the engine mounts custom?
- Were they custom driveshafts?

I will have more questions once I get going I guess, I have a gearbox for a 98 n15 almera, the car it was bought for got scrapped so this is going spare which inspired me to go GA16, and I think to have another GA16 army man, will be quite cool too

I wanna do cams, pulleys, intake system with CAI, manifold + exhaust, firmer engine mounts. Was looking at JWT S1 cams but the idle isn't as lopey as I'd want (I love lopey idles, best noise on a car I think) - so first thing I'll do is try to find blanks and re-grind them to whatever profile is needed, then go about looking at making some springs and retainers and possibly some nice valves :)

QUOTE]

i used the 1.0 litre micra loom and spliced in the alternator loom from the ga16 into it,worked ok.
when fitting the ga16 the drivers side mount lines up perfect, i bashd the drivers side chassis leg in a bit to make room for the crank pulley, other people cut and plate it but i didnt see the point in this, rough and ready was good enough for me, plus when the engines in you cant see it. as for the cradle this was cut and shut, you can do this with the ga16 bolted up to the drivers side engine mount and use a jack under the gearbox to line things up proper, but you need to watch when you do this cos if you muck it up then the n/s cv boot is gunna rub on the chassis, and will bang on harsh take offs and end up breaking driveshafts etc, you dont want thisfwn
now with the driveshafts, i bought some off a guy who said they were made by a "motorsport"pro who makes them for rally cars, im not joking ya, i had mine out 4 hours and it snapped, they looked dodgy from the off but i though "hey, the guy said they were pro!"how wrong i was, i think the shafts were cut and shuts, half micra, half almera, all i did was cut them in half, weld them up and slide a sleave over and weld it both ends, i guess i got lucky, no vibration,no juddering, just nice strong shafts. remember and slide the sleave on before you do the 1st weld on the shaft, otherwise it wont slide on:glare:

as for engine mounts, you will see what you need to do when you get the drivers side bolted up, its simple, and just use the standard micra mounts but fill them with sickoflex and put them in a clamping device overnight, strongest mounts you'll ever need.

hope this has answered some of your questions. mike

P10 FTW? I never knew you ended up with that plate John! I do miss P11 FTW sometimes

Good luck with the K11 though mate, they're fun cars! :)

ABS, you probably won't need it in a K11, plus the rear axles from ABS K11s are more rare than headlight protectors for a P11!

Yep, got it about July last year haha, after me saying "why don't you get P10 FTW" for your old eZX and then remembering it was J reg, I thought about it and bit the bullet and it's been the best thing I've done to the car, FTW gives it the cool to people who don't know what the p10 means, just think its cool I gotta FTW plate on the car, and to the die hards like me its one of the best things I could of done.... well happy with it :) :) :) :)

I have seen one photo of your old SR, they the crystal headlights? What did you do to make them RHD compatitable?

Take care man

Erm, I kinda didn't, I just took them off for this reason: http://www.micra.org.uk/threads/5710-Crystal-Headlights-IMPORTANT

I'm not sure if anyone made any progress getting them UK compliant, NeX tried but had no luck I'm afraid :(

Well the car arrived here about 5 o clock yesturday :) and the V5 is now in my name also so this car is officially mine :D :D :D :D :D

anyways due to having sprained my ankle last night, couldn't do big jobs, so moved the car so the front was next to a small wall so I had something to sit on and got cracking on getting the front end looking a bit more fresh.

Now this been my first white car, I have no idea what the best products to use are, but I t-cut'ed (is that a word?!), resin polished and tech waxed the grille and the slam panel. I didn't want to get up too often so I only took one distant shot and that was when I was nearly finished

Silly things really rather than fixing it up, I have got a breaker P10 Primera eGT, one thing I thought I'd miss in the interior of the Micra was the adjustable head restraints (tilt and slide rather than just slide upwards/ downwards :)) ... well... what have we here

haha, then tried the sun visors as they have cloth when they're up on the roof, rather than plain plastic, and a lit vanity mirror on the passanger one - even though the fittings are the same, the clip ain't... doh.

I am now driving the car :)

The car had a bit of money spent on it to get it up to scratch, the dented rear wing is still there.

This is a list of things that were done at the garage and things I did...

Air/ Fuel/ Oil fiters changed
spark plugs changed
PCV filter changed
Oil changed
Timing Chain inspection cover re-sealed
5 new tyres
MOT
windscreen washer jets fixed
new horn

With the MOT, there was no advisories :) how good is that?

Things still needing to sort

rear wing
dodgy reverse light connection

After driving it I think the car needs some strut braces... so on the lookout for front upper/ lower ones first :)

Then at it's first meet a couple of days ago :D

Jetta ;) haha.

Plans are for the Micra to be almost as low!!!! although I was kinda smug been the only one not having to slow right down to go over the slightest of bumps on the road haha

Daniel

I WILL be back...
I'm not big on Dubs. But Jettas are pretty fresh though, even if that one would be totally useless around where I live - potholes, speedbumps, and random bumps in most roads. Low Micras are the way forward though, but I do hate having to go really slow over speedbumps, and even my uprated dampers don't stop it from bumping around all over the place

How low are you planning on going, and on what wheels?

Then for coilovers I will be buying Cusco K11 coilovers from Japan, going to take a long time to save up but that is the make I will be going for :)
