PP7's Super S

I had a blog for this car years ago, I have no idea where it is but it's somewhere so I'll just focus on new things in this blog I think...

So the engine had been feeling a little tired and unhappy for a while. I knew that the actual engine itself was healthy so I figured I'd just overhaul the carburettor and manifolds (usual suspects).

Surprise, surprise, the exhaust manifold was leaking due to corrosion at the mating surface. I don’t think this had ever been removed so it’s likely that the head has never been removed either.

The catalyst housing decided to put up a fight but lost, hence the broken studs. The studs were drilled out (no easy task because they were extremely hardened) and a simple nut, bolt, spring-washer combination was used instead.
The EGR valve and the inlet manifold parted ways due to… conflicting interests. The catalyst was upset by the separation and also decided to leave…

The carburettor was given a full strip-down, clean, re-build with all new gaskets. Good thing too because (unsurprisingly) the carburettor’s top gasket had a leak. The throttle position switch was a little sticky too, but nothing that a good clean didn’t solve.

Exhaust manifold and catalyst housing prepped, painted and mounted together with a brand new Lambda sensor. I wanted to use proper plugs to seal off the EGR and AIV holes but couldn’t get anything the right size. So the pipes were cut, heated, crimped, welded and painted. Yes it’s crude, but it works.

EGR hole sealed with 3mm thick steel and a new gasket.

And that was it. Back together and running like a champ again!
So I gave it a little gift...

It was a comical term, used for entertainment purposes. There you go ya see you just kiled the punchline. Why did I remove it? Because I wanted to, the engine didn't need it, it had been disabled long ago and was sitting unused.

Well they sometimes call me "Provo the Punchline killer" anyway I did some research on the EGR and I came up that it reduces the NOx production in the engine what leads to a lower exhaust temprature. As the critic that I am i putted it to the test and measured it at 3500 rpm and indeed, it reduced the temprature for a stunning 3,5 °C. On the other hand, diesel engines with EGR valves, thats another problem on itself, but who drives a diesel anyway? :p

EGR makes the engine run like crap, that's why it's gone. Try going out jogging and breathing your own waste gases...
Not needed and not legally required so...
I'd rather have the simple setup I have now. Computer controls the mixture from the Lambda reading. Nothing else is interfering with that reading by pumping fresh air into the manifold, or pumping waste gas into the inlet manifold. Runs far better and my emissions are the same so it's all good.

Getting a new engine and box ready to drop into the S. Power-Steering system to add, new wishbones, break pipes, exhaust, rust-repair, waxoyling & schutzing, and maybe also fitting air conditioning while the engine bay is vacant (may as well do it all one-time). Time to give this old bird a new lease of life :)

A new heart sourced. A full rebuild and much tuning is planned.

A stock flywheel on the left, a lightened unit on the right.

Uhhh any details on the planes?

nice to see another tuned super s in the club mate. :p

I don’t have the patience to cover all of the details so I’ll just cover some of them.
The body will be stripped to bare metal, repairs will be made, then it will be Zinc coated, resprayed inside and out and reassembled with all new parts (seals, suspension, lights etc…). Soundproofed, waxoyled, power steering (Figaro) fitted, air conditioning (Figaro) fitted, thatcham alarm with tracker and remote central locking, windows tinted, Foha lower spoiler, alloys, Figaro front hubs and vented disk brakes. Custom stainless steel exhaust system and manifold.
Engine – New: valves (back cut), stem seals, springs, retainers, collets, all seals, all gaskets, all bearings (conrod and crank).
Crank polish and balance, bores honed & new rings. Deck and skim. 3 angle valve seats cut, port work and polishing yada yada yada…
That’s as much as I have the patience to write. Most importantly, at absolutely no point am I soliciting opinions on my projects. Bottom line is, it’s my call and I’m having them how I want them.

Might just be me but it looks like an old engine attacked with a can of spray?
Or have I taken 'new' too literally :p

Maybe I bought it exactly as pictured. And maybe I haven’t started the project yet, idiot.

Wow looking good :) shame you can't find your old thread :( x

Thanks! I appreciate the positivity. The next update will be on completion of the project in late October. The start date is early July and I’m very much looking forward to it!

The respray on Shaf's old SS would never have happened if some jealous morons hadn't pored paint-stripped all over it.
He did all the bodywork himself in a freezing winter and a hell of a lot of work went into that car. The only let-down was when the painter got hold of it. In my opinion he didn't use enough paint, but by the time Shaf saw it, the laquor was already on and starting all over wasn't an option. That was a very lovely car, i enjoyed working on it, i enjoyed riding in it, and i enjoyed driving it. I couldn't believe he'd sold it. But on the other hand he gave me his spare super s, so all is right with the world.

Wow never knew that happened to the poor car! Yeah Shaf is a lovely bloke, remember buying the car almost a year ago now and it was such an enjoyable experience. He sent me pictures of the car during the work and I can see it had so much time and effort put into it. I just finished taking the undersea off of the car, treating any rust and reundersealing it. There was near to not rust underneath it, really did surprise me.

Found some old pictures kicking around. This was in 2010. Had the wrong bumper on it back then.
