Porks bike carbs and boost project

Thought I'd start this to stop posting lots of threads about different things

So after selling my last car to pay vet bills, I've been eager to get another car

Last car:

The reason for the sale:
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345741657.594484.jpg

All better now :)

So, the plan for this build is bike carbs and boost, all sourced with free stuff I get from jobs, cheap stuff from eBay, and the knowledge off what people have done on the Internet, learn as you build :D

........but, I have no car yet as the mrs wants to buy it for me for my birthday in October (says it will stop me destroying the house with DIY projects when I'm bored)

.......but hasn't stopped me from getting a start with things.

So far I have bought

Cbr600 carbs
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345741988.702065.jpg

K11 hubs
Anti roll bars
1.2 head

Carbs were in a bit of a state

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345742158.985077.jpg

So dismantled
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345742195.839681.jpg

Cleaned up and rebuilt
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345742240.309452.jpg

Next was make template for plenum

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345742295.552732.jpg

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345742314.373552.jpg

Then cut from some free steel

Tbh iv jus finished welding the plenum, it looks pretty shoddy, but I kinda like the way it looks :) it's honest lol
Really should of practiced first, but sod it
Function over form shall we say ;)

Plans for arb's will be pretty much what machi San done with his, k11 hubs with k10 wish bones drilled to take arb, heard I may need k11 track rod ends too
Rear will need plates welding on for drop links and other bushes

Now iv bought a welder I can attempt all these little jobs, the way I see it, if I was to pay someone else to do it, would of cost twice the price of the mig

Iv got loads of mandrel bends coming soon too to attempt an exhaust manifold, but really need the car to space everything out

After pressure testing the last plenum, finding loads of leaks, grinding down welds, re-welding, I've given up with the box shape and scraped it, didn't look that nice either, il right it off as practice with the welder ;)

So, plenum mk2

3 inch pipe

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346348673.682020.jpg

Drill holes to accept 57 mm exhaust pipe

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346348729.211728.jpg

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346348740.593684.jpg

Weld on stack

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346348770.870993.jpg

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346348852.501024.jpg

This is all I've managed to do today, but a lot neater and better looking

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346348824.254305.jpg

Hopefully have it done end of next week, limited time allowed in the workshop, wish I had a garage :(

Also gunna have to find another turbo, has a massive crack in exhaust housing, also the chap who sold it never said he had snapped some studs in it, which are impossible to remove

Still waiting on 45 degree bends to arrive to make inlet manifold

lookin good neil :) you should be able to remove those studs with the welder mate, if you weld a blob onto the stud at full power, then weld a nut onto the blob, and the heat will free it off

Cheers :)

Practice helps!!

Haven't got a pic of the crack, but it's uder the wastegate, couple of mm wide!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346351419.079029.jpg

I've tried a stud extractor but dint work, ended up squashing the stud I used that much force

Was only £21.50, I can se it to mock up the exhaust at least until I fid. another turbo

Welds are ok but look a bit big and blobby and there doesn't look like much heat has come through to the inside face - maybe turn the voltage up a bit if you can :).

Advert pic
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1348688676.659703.jpg

Il post some more tomorrow in the daytime.

Adventurous drive back to say the least.

Didn't miss a beat on 80 mile drive, but a year without drivin an old car shows!

No ABS, and skinny tires with no grip in the rain = brown trouser moment!

Happy chapter tho!
