i know it old mate but did you get a kit when you done your gear box?

no i was simply in a curious & cleaning mood, opened the thing to see how it all works, cleaned all parts free from dirt and reassembled. dunno the milage or amount of wear but all the gearbox bits looked fine

cheers will

tonight i roughly hooked up the odyssey battery to test and ooh it starts within the first crank compared to the older normal battery :) certainly got enough oompth then

i'm on a spending spree this week:suspect:
just ordered some 90deg silicon elbows & 60 mm mild steel tube for the inlet, 65mm silicon t-piece for BOV, 20mm step dill bit to drill holes for BOV & wideband, 3m of 50mm2 365A battery cable, auto darken weld mask and gloves. wallet is gonna hate me :p

i guess i'll prob have to think about gettin a gripper lsd from matt and better clutch with the turbo fitting cos would be pointless to find out the current clutch slips.

now this will maily be a daily runner and just the occasional trackday. anyone have any experience of what the helix competition paddle clutch kit (that matt and Shero's sellin) behaves like? i read this sort of clutch engages sharpy on/off, eat flywheels and shudders in slow traffic, prob get on my nerves and more likely to stall especially with a jun flywheel.

recommendations that can handle prob 160ftlb torque with smooth engagement and light-medium feel? can the pressure plates fulcrum be moved for light pedal feel but higher clamp force?

Im sure I read somewhere on here that mph were in the process of making a new clutch kit better than whats currently available so it can take more power?

any puck type clutch will chew the friction face paul (they have a smaller surface area and rely on physical bite eh)
baguete,s one was showing wear, but his f/w has a removable insert tho
factory 200mm organic FTW

dunno if mph 200mm organic flywheel kit's gonna fit on this jun flywheel? space for a bigger clutch plate looks tight

googled sr20det clutch kits and found these
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m20b763s2504p12681&rs=gb
but forums say its a 240mm clutch with 280mm pcd bolt holes, which def won't fit.

but to check if the jun supports any bigger clutches, i overlayed a pic of the pre-worn jun flywheel over a worn stock flywheel to see where the 180mm stock clutch plate is relative to the weight reducing holes of the JUN. and unfortunately accordin to this pic it'impossible to go bigger cos the huge holes are right near the edge

junvsstock.jpg

so it'll have to be a 180mm clutch plate but grippier

googled some almera 1.4 clutch kits
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-Clutch...481611&cguid=15efca981280a0aad46098b0ff57671d
does the clutch pressure plate pcd and clutch plate spline match up with the micra?

here's an illustration of my jun flywheel with 180, 190, 200mm plates and i'm not sure a 190mm kit will work cos the holes will just eat up the edges and redrilling new mounting holes that's just few mm larger pcd doesn't seem feasable without weakening something due to lack of available space
clutchsize.jpg

what options do i have staying with 180mm discs? i'm only aware of the stock ebay k11 clutch kit, helix competition paddle clutch, and maybe LUK clutch.
what bout fitting just an upgraded pressure plate with a LUK clutch plate? will that handle the torque?

humphris sells a 270kg pressure plate but whats the stock clutch clamp force?

here's an old thread bout LUK clutch but a solarice got reply that luk stopped doing their heavy duty version

autogateway has what looks like a luk clutch but is prob a standard luk clutch kit

baguete,s GA16/190 mm cover had a bigger pcd than a k11 one paul (and a different radial spacing too )
and it would be a shame to chew that jun friction face with an abrasive/non organic plate eh fwn

Mine is running somewhere around 130ft/lbs at the moment and it spins the wheels, using the 180mm helix paddle disc (dunno what its doing to the flywheel though -- but i can replace the centre section if needs be).

Actually where abouts in the North East are you?

you could fit a 190 plate under your pressure plate maybe paul ? (with the outer side chamfered down to about 185mm, like my hybrid 160/180mm clutch )

ah right not that far away. If you wanna see what the clutch bite is like on mine gimme a shout and i can pop over / meet you half way :)

nah using a 3.2kg alloy flywheel...stalled it a few times lol.

so the flywheel side of the disc is 185mm to miss the flywheel holes while the pressure plate side is 190mm, do-able.
know of any 190mm pressure plate that'll fit directly onto the k11 flywheel bolt holes?

that'll be fab. i'll be free on weekend if ya fancy a cuppa over here:grinning:

i stalled abit initially with 3.2 flywheel too but now adapted to the feel, paddle clutch would be another challenge

no the pressureplate side is 185mm to clear the cover paul (re shero, when he fitted a 190mm one by mistake and the clutch would,nt release)
and its 190 on the f/w side, which will have very minimal overlap on the lightening holes (like a drilled brake disc)

if i remember, the stock pressure plates surface matches the diameter of the stock clutch plate so it wouldn't make use of a trimmed 190mm clutch. will need to check with old clutch tonight. and would the radial groves on a normal clutch plate hitting abit of the flywheel lightening holes cause some uneven juddering?

yes, point taken paul, your pressure plates are 180mm so you would only gain grip on 1 side eh (our 160mm pressure plates are 170mm, so and there,s an unused ring eh, and my hybrid plate has contact of 180mm and 170mm which is a good gain from 160/160mm
you would have to compare the pcd footprint of the 190mm cover really eh, to assess that option

A bit late in the game but I run both a 184mm helix paddle clutch and a gripper LSD. I wouldn't recommend the LSD at all for a daily driver and occasional track use car, the other way around sure but it's not nice to drive on the open roads as a daily driver and personally you will likely hate it. As for the clutch, I bought Matt's last 184mm kit but they are available through Helix direct, although they require specialist machining of the flywheel face. As I recall the flavour of cover plate I have, (63-211R - 318kg plate), will handle around 160lb/ft with an organic plate and around 205lb/ft with a paddle but I wouldn't recommend the paddle clutch at all, it's very aggressive and a complete pain in traffic. It's partly why we run a 6kg flywheel, to help offset the takeup.......we could take a little more off I think but in it's current setup does make for some pretty awesome launches.

It's all very much specialist gear, but a helix clutch like mine with an organic place would be a nice touch, although expensive and the pedal load is pretty high, so the stock clutch bracket takes a beating. Although there maybe some ways to find something to go, it's always a challenge when you start to make high torque. I don't have any experience with stock cover plates from other nissan vehicles, mine was designed to be future proof and to handle anything I throw at it, so budget wasn't much of an issue.

Hope you find a solution. My advice, sort the clutch first :)

a-ha frank ur right. i just put the clutch plate over the pressure plate that came with the £700 ebay turbo kit, prob stock, and the pressure plate surface is 190mm :)

DSC03541.JPG

so good news is i could fit a 190mm clutch plate.
on the jun flywheel side, i'm really just estimating the space available from a roughly compared photo so don't really know if the flywheel surface is actually the same 190mm as the pressure plate till i open her up.

what nissan models use the 190mm disc that i could google a kit for?

hey thx soo much for the precious insight there ;)

since i got two boxes, maybe one is a stock daily runner and the other is installed for trackdays?

well that's the helix kit out the window

i prob couldn't bear a heavier clutch pedal. when i had a non-bistable sprung clutch pedal it was so heavy. during a long bad traffic jam my thighs almost packed up, shaking and left arm couldn't help. better after replacing cable and fitted the proper bi-stable spring pedal but for some reason nowhere near as light as some micras i've tried. as though this current pressure plate is like heavy duty.

so i think the route to go is prob fit an almera 1.6 clutch kit

found an almera 1.6 clutch kit and it says input shaft splines 18.3-20.8 which matches.

http://www.allcarsallparts.co.uk/product_details.php?productID=33017

the almera clutch measures 190mm outer 121 inner but the micra pressure plate measures 190mm outer & 128 inner.
so it means the almera 1.6 clutch plate has to be used with the 1.6 pressure plate but i dunno if it'll fit the flywheel bolt holes.
i estimate that since the cg13de pressure plate barely supports the 190mm plate thats chamferred, the almera pressure plate PCD is prob gonna be slightly bigger so may not fit the bolt hole lugs. can anyone verify?

ooh hold up, think i got the wrong pic. ok re-measured, the inner dia is 128 so the almera 1.6 clutch plate will fit after all:grinning:

like i say paul, baguete,s 190mm cover had a bigger pcd, so you need a 1.6 friction plate and an uprated 1.4 cover

So, what will be the combination of parts you will use?

i thinks its a 190mm almera 1.6 clutch plate (are the standard one down the local factors organic?) with either a stock micra pressure plate or frank says an (almera 1.4 pressure plate or micra 1.4 plate?) though not sure if the pcd fits.

Yes, GA14 cover fit Micra flywheel, at least the Portuguese Micra Trophy car used them...

GA14 cover with GA16 disc is a good combo. :grinning:

thats not a 1.6 cover on post # 732 is it paul ? because i have a couple of 1.3 covers and they,re 180mm dia
it probably depends on the manufacturer, regarding the dia eh

i'm not sure tbh
if ur 1.3 covers are 180mm outer then it might be a 1.6 pressure plate here

trying to find out what clutch i've got. the pressure plate has a printed serial of CA363 O1A7M 2222X, google shows nothing

the side has a faint stamp mark of 8LCK213P24A, again no results

the clutch plate that i won't be using is A4030 DP 437 46A, prob stock micra clutch

signs of launch abuse?

so really dunno what clutch it is

tday i gave the front brakes a regreasing. the left front thats occasionally scraping under hard load appears to be the coilover covers. the left hand cover has part of the trouser zipper facing outwards and what i suspect is when the coils compressing while under high loads, the trousers loosen outwards to their original wider diameter and allowing the metal zipper bit to rub against the tyre leaving abrasive markings. what i'll need to do then is make a proper fitting jacket that won't just flap about when compressed.

also the rear left knocking that strangely happens when the car was cold but once warmed up it stops, has been traced down to a slightly loose handbrake cable clip.

DSC03549.JPG

as the rear susp moves, the cable moves up/down pivoting on this loose clip making a slight annoying knock.
squeezed it with pliers and the noise is finally gone :)

well kris came over tday. ooh tis such a nice low little beast :) we chatted so long in freezing cold till sunset. i started his car and compared to mine it instantly whooomths into life, whoa:wow:
huge vibration from the nismo engine mounts and engine response/feel is scary. only a touch and the whole car shakes n revs in a flash. ITS INSANELY BRUTAL:laugh:

really short gearstick throw with the short shifter, gosh it feels nice and sharp.
now the whole objective is all about the clutch. pressed the clutch and like wtf? i was half expecting some meaty weight pressure plate like mine but instead it was as light as any other cars so something must be wrong with mine or maybe unknown to me i'd brought a heavy duty pressure plate?
i was expecting a shuddery instant grippy engagement, but nope. i just smoothly went off as smooth as mine. that was surprisingly pleasant.

so that's confirmed then. order helix clutch plate & almera 1.4 pressure plate.
saw shero's selling a helix clutch kit so go with that. wonder what sorta pressure plate it is.

Kris, thanks ever so much for coming to help. been an absolute joy talking to ya ;)
