Paapz0r's K12 1.4 Acenta

Hello fellow micra fans,

I am Wesley. 20 years old from the netherlands.
I just signed up today. Seeing how active the K12 side actually is compared to the dutch micra drivers. Mostly K11 fanatics (which are awesome as well)
Owning a k12 for more than 2 years now, and still my very first car.
Thought i would introduce and show the k12 off for a bit. Since i would like to ask for help and use this forum for some handy tips and tricks etc.

So, its a 1.4L 88hp Acenta 3 door from 2008.
Bought it with around ~101000 KM on it
It has around ~138500 KM At the moment.

I am pretty up to speed exterior wise (not completly done yet ) but i am also looking for minor engine upgrades like creating better flow for the engine. (intake and exhaust.)

This is what i have done to her up untill now:

Exterior:
-Plastidipped black: Front grills and front Nissan logo
-Smoked front blinker glass
-Replaced original rear lights with the 12SR Rear lights from japan, doesnt have a red Foglight glass left or right so i had to get a Red LED light i stead.(looks more Neat)
-got a SR rear spoiler (non-Painted)
-Tinted the 3 rear windows
-Removed rear emblems
-replaced stock rear muffler for an aftermarket one. (This will be replaced ASAP)
-New Rims JR21 17x7 4x100 with 205/40 Falken ziex tires
-Red Lug nuts and Dust caps + 4hp (yay)
-Full BC Racing Coilovers Set incl. Camberplates
-Black Headlights
-LED H4 Bulbs
-Yellow front fog lights
Interior:
-RGB LED lights down where my feet are. (Driver and passenger side)
-Upgraded the older doorspeakers for "Audiosystem" Speakers + Tweeters

Todo/Wishlist
-Aftermarket 2-DIN radio so that i can set up my Amp + Subwoofer.
-SR/CC front/rear bumpers (and sideskirts)
-Ill probably remove the front Nissan emblem at some point.
-(far fetched but) weld a better exhaust manifold.
-Weld up a Stainless steel Catback exhaust system without rear muffler and the Exhaust tip ending in the middle of the bumper.
-Upgrade intake with some Forum ideas
And probably many more.. but thats for later on

And thats about it.. probably forgot something.
You can ask, suggest and comment on anything.

Ill sort out pictures ASAP

Bought a fixer-upper set of rims
Painted them and fitted my spoiler, since i felt it was missing something on the back of the car. I got a geniune rear nissan spoiler.
Same for the rear muffler. The nissan dealer had one laying around.
Also had to get rid of the rusty drums and calipers. So red it is.
Will upgrade to brembo disks whenever these wear out.

G'day Paap0r!
Your pictures are visible and clear ;)
Do you still have original headlights shown in first picture?

How about red bolt covers to wheels:
20Pcs 17/19/21mm Silicone Wheel Lug Nut Bolt Hub Screw Cover Tyre Protective Cap :)
http://

I do have the original ones, they are kinda worn though, but they have the electrical headlight motors. And the new ones dont..

And concerning the nuts, they are already red

I have had over two years right rear light from Ireland, to get same look. Only problem might be Finnish MOT, I don't know do they demand reverse light to be clear/white  And my blinkers are taped to orange/amber.
Dutch MOT allows anything i ve done so far, yellow fog lights, rear lights etc. except for the orange 4 watt T5 bulbs in my headlights ;p

(On request) A little How-to on cleaning and painting your drums and calipers.
(Without removing the calipers and/or drums itself)

What you need:
-A Jack
-3 to 4 Jack stands.(or similar)
-Tools to get the wheels off.
-Steel Brush
-sandpaper 90 (rough)
-sandpaper 400 (smooth)
-Brakecleaner (or similar)
-paper roll
-1 Primer spraycan (I had a brown primer. pick whichever color is available to you.)
-1 or 2 Spraycans in Desired Color (in my case red)
-Unfolded Cardboard boxes or paper to protect the surrounding parts, hoses and your body paint.
-A cup (optional)
-Coffee (optional)

Expecting you know how to jack a car, and know how to use jackstands etc.
Ill skip to the good part.

f243069d4ef3a02f07bd7acbb92d520e.jpg

Step 1: Start off with getting the rough rust and Brake dust off with a steel brush, might use one on a drill or so. The drum brakes are a little easier but this applies to calipers as well.
Followed with first the rough sandpaper. And later on the finer one. For a smooth and even base.

Step 2: Clean thoroughly with the brake cleaner and paper. you dont want any dust or rust remaining on the part you wanna spraypaint.

Step 3: dry the brakecleaner off.
Since it will mess up your paint if its still on there.

Step 4: Place your paper and/or cardboard to protect your surrounding parts etc.

Step 5: Start with 2 layers of primer, wait 5 to 10 minutes in between so it can dry while you do the rest of the calipers and drums. When it has dried, use the finer sandpaper and sand it back just a little and clean it again.

871ddadd55df34c10efdeb1770d84584.jpg

Step 6: Use the colored paint in the same way. i ve done 3 layers. 2 might be okay as well.
Just lightly sand back the paint inbetween layers, clean, dry and apply your next layer.

57b325aab05327b62bcf9fa84d40562c.jpg

Repeat this process around your car. I think paint will dry quick enough for you to be able to continue almost in 1 go, if not. Just get yourself another cup of coffee while you wait.

Just mount your wheels back on and enjoy your freshly looking drums and calipers.

Also to keep my JR21 rims tidy and all for the summers.
I ve gone pretty extreme
Wide steel rims.

Those tyres are too narrow for 8J rims . I have 225-45-17's on my Saab which has 7J rims, 8J would need to be at least that width and more correctly 235 section.....
I have 185-50-16's on my standard 6J SR rims, currently running these Vredestein Quatrac 5, all season tyres

vredestein-quatrac-5-profile.jpg

Good Dutch tyre ;), though mine were shipped in from Germany...

I run 205/40/17 on my summer rims and those are 7J wide
But i wanted to go a little more extreme. So i needed this stretch on the tire without needing fender flares. also, my MOT is in july so i wont be on these wheels anyways. you love it or you hate it. And it still drives perfectly fine though. And you gotta know what the limits are of a stretched tire as well.

Good looking, basic steel rims are nice. Outer ring painted to body color, they would look even better...?!
Stainless hub caps would give Micra old school look, like if I remember correctly, newish Fiat 500 are having.

Going to give inferior grip in snow/rain as the act of stretching them does the opposite to the tread, it closes the tread up.......

I see what you mean but that would be with Tread that goes lengthwise around the tire.

There has been a little renovation done to the front of the K12.

Has been on my list for a long while,
-Got myself a SR/CC front bumper.
-Bought and recieved a Honeycomb Bumper grill through Ebay
-Ordered Older Version Grills With Blinkers.
-Removed the front Nissan emblem
And had the Holes in the Hood welded.

Before:

After:

The undergrill that still has to be Clicked in.

I need to get a little used to her new look.
But she looks a little meaner now
I like it, just need to get rid of the Chroming on the grills, and smoke the Blinker glass
Need to add a Carbon/black wrap to the bottom of the SR bumper to make it a bit more complete.

Like this

Maybe a little hard to see. But this one has the same idea

Like you I wasn't enamoured with the big chunky chrome strips on the 2005/7 front grills so I went back one stage and fitted the earlier grills with the smaller strips and three bar indicators, but replaced the OEM amber lenses with clear ones (from 'Carparts4less') and fitted the chrome amber Philips bulbs.( More information in THIS THREAD)

xSPLnOh.jpg

Do like the lower centre section of the bumper, under the honeycomb grill, blacked out, can see that happening on mine when the weather gets warmer ;).
I have now got the symmetrical rear lights fitted to the car but haven't smoked the non active parts of the lenses yet as I'm having problems masking the parts I don't want painted, cant get masking tape to stick to them..:(
Since that picture was taken I have fitted a set of 160SR sports suspension springs all round (which lowered the car about 25mm and stiffened up the suspension) and Koni Sports dampers and 20mm hubcentric spacers on the rear......

John, would it be time to make your own blog of your modifications? :)
Easier to find, when mods are in one place
-Mika-
Well......went to search 'my content' and found that it covers less than a third of my posts, last listed being less than 4 months ago, at the end of August, so identifying any previous posts concerning mods, to cut and paste into a new thread gets very difficult. If I had easier access to those earlier postings, that cover my mods, then I would quite happily sit down for an hour or two and put something together..... (I run a two screen set up on my desktop PC so can have two sessions on here open at once)

Little update:

Done some black plastidipping on the chroming of the front grills.

Aaaand.. My middle muffler started blowing air from somewhere and gave a weird buzzing noise when running stationary, decided to replace it with the well known straight pipe .

(Gotta love making some noise.)

Also, next thing up are the brake pads, should upgrade to EBC Greenstuff pads. Should i replace my Disks as well? Anyone know the minimum thickness on Disks??

On further note. there is a meeting/trip planned towards Japfest in the UK!! theres a poll up on the dutch Micrafanclub which will kind of give an indication which one we will go for, its either the Donnington, or silverstone edition.

Not sure if any one will be there as well, but ill keep you guys posted (if any of you would like.) when and where we will go. i am super excited to go there with a few members, should be a day full of awesome moments.

Thus far.

Nice even wear on pads and discs, but as you say perfect timing to replace both.
When I first got my K12 I replaced front discs and pads with Mintex parts, but found that while the braking was OK I found that the Mintex pads were too hard and had poor initial bite from cold, so replaced the pads a few months ago with Pagid ones, which are far superior, great bite when cold and no fade problems when braking down from high speed.

Small updates.

Fitted window visors and smoked my front blinkers.

Yo Wesley,
I added our flag from reflective M3 tape (white=silver background with blue cross) to cover ugly EU insignia.
According other Finns it looks cool & patriotic, specially in dark when it shines
Of course your flag in reflective red-white(silver)-blue would break your dark grey stealth theme

Just enjoying the car for a bit. It has had its service and dutch MOT done as well, will be driving to France for the summer break to enjoy the roads and views there.

Will try and get the lower part of the bumper, right under the grill wrapped in carbon. And get a sunstrip on my front windshield.

Cool to see what you did to your Micra, respect for the job! How is the emblem attached to the hood, just with tape? I just bought a Micra for my girlfriend and want to do some small mods... :D

The 'hood' emblem is located on two pegs, so there are corresponding holes in the metal work that would have to be filled and the 'hood' repainted to get the clean look above. The tailgate emblem though is just stuck on with double sided foam fixing so no holes there to worry about if you want to remove it.........

Use double sided foam tape to stick the emblem back. Make sure you align it correctly since you might have some play between the pins of the emblem and the holes in the hood :)

Deffo recommend using plastidip for spraying the emblem since its tougher against rock chipping

I'm currently experimenting on chemically removing the chrome plating from plastic chromed items so that they can be painted without it chipping off. I'll post a thread on it when completed. Looking good at the moment, I am stripping a bonnet badge and although the process is slow (currently been in the chemical bath for two weeks) it appears to work very well.......
This is after 13 days in the chemicals

Almost there, when finished it should just be plain white plastic....
