Only one remote fob, easy to add another?

My sister has a 52 plate Micra Twister, but only has the one remote key with the car (also controls central locking).

It looks like this one http://img31.imageshack.us/i/micrakey.jpg/

Is it just a matter of getting a new/used one (with a new blade), then reprogramming it via this method?

"1. Place your key in the ignition and switch from the LOCK position to the ON position 6 times within 10 seconds ending with the key in the LOCK position

If done correctly the indicators should flash 2 times

2. Press and hold the UNLOCK button (black on P11) on your keyfob and while keeping it pressed then push the LOCK button (Red on P11) 3 times then release the UNLOCK button.

If done correctly the indicators should flash 2 times

3. To reprogram a further key/keyfob remove the key and put your second key in the ignition (or hold your fob close to the ignition barrel) leaving it in the LOCK position and repeat step 2.

Once done turn your ignition on and then back off to exit the coding procedure."

Will this enable the central locking and the NATS immobiliser, or will the latter have to be programmed by a specialist?

Any suggestions for suppliers/programmers via the internet or around the Bristol area?

Thanks :)

That will programme the remote central locking only. The Nats bit is related to a tiny (red in mine) chip. Perhaps you could swap the chip to the new key? or can you fit the remote bit to the key that doesn't have the remote bit on?

There is no little red chip in these ones. They have a circuit board inside which I assume pairs with the NATS when the procedure above is done, I am replacing one of my fobs soon as the buttons are knackered.

YOUR key is in 2 parts.... the part with the blade in it has the red nats chip hidden inside...... if the buttons on your remote are broken..... your dont need a new board... you can get the micro buttons and casing replaced.

as long as your board is not water damaged you can get it sorted.

The existing key isn't damaged, she would just like another one.

So it looks like the central locking function can be easily programmed, but the NATS chip in the lower half of the key requires programming with Nissan? Slightly conflicting information on this one.

Is the design of the none remote key the same as the remote key, in that you will be able to fit a remote bit to it? if that's the case you just need a new remote bit.
If not you can as I said earlier remove the transponer chip from the original key and fit it to the new key, just need the new key cutting at any key cutter, or you'll have to get it reprogrammed.
