I wanna put my engine, and most of my car into it as it was cheaper than getting mine resprayed also need to get certain things moved across, ie wishbones, bushes etc my car failed it's mot yesterday on two things a small hole in the sill below the door and one of my rear shockers was leaking, so that's the first job before i start work on it!
Can i put my reg onto that car if i stick my engie and the interior in that car as the chassis won't match up but isn't it just like i've been to the breakers only instead of swapping the panels i swapped the car?

Anyway if there is any one localwith any know how on sorting these things out it'd be great to have help from someone who has an idea of what they are doing! I clearly don't but if not i have my Haynes manual and bucket loads of enthusiasm!

Hopefully i'll be doing the whole digi cam bit while i'm doing my work so may be able to post some action shots of me attempting to do this stuff!

Any help advice guidance general well wishing would be much appreciated!

Dave

I feel kinda attached to my 1 litre engine! as well as it having only done bout 60k it's taken me driving like a demented chipmunk on speed and seems to have plenty of kick to her for a small engine! I won't know till the new one arrives whether it has a 1.2 engine in it but i do know it's done 100K!

How's it going Mark? got rid of the rest of your spare car or you still doing it? The bits i got off you have def made a difference to the interior but looks like i'm gonna have to take it out and put it into my new one!!!

Hey Arnold
As soon as i saw the colour i knew the car was def worth the agro, will have some more pics when it arrives! Deff improvement to mine but i'm gonna have a lot of work to do to get her road legal, it failed it's mot on the preverbial shopping list,

a new bearing,
welding on the bottom (prob not disimilar to mine!)
something to do with the wishbones!
something to do with the lights
and the exhaust pipe isn't looking to healthy!
also the heating system needs refitting as it is currently living in the boot of the car!

The bits i think i should be able to sort out relatively easily are the lights,
and the heating system, if anyone has any idea what i need to do with the other bits i'd love any advice!

a new bearing, totally depends on what bearing? wheel bearing clutch release bearing etc etc etc
welding on the bottom (prob not disimilar to mine!) just take all the old rubbish metal out and weld a new piece of metal plate in there and then rust seal it with stone chip A MUST
something to do with the wishbones!will be the mount. and only come with teh full ishbone so replacement wishbone easy enough to again haynes is your friend
something to do with the lightsshould be relatively simple. bulb or melted wires. more the likly melted wires or that if it failed mot then it could be the adjuystment of them ?MOT station can do this for ya aswell
and the exhaust pipe isn't looking to healthy!£30 gets you a new exhaust system, or around 200 gets yuou a very nice custom built one from an exhaust specialist like powerflow etc
also the heating system needs refitting as it is currently living in the boot of the car!removal of the complete dash (however if its not there then i would also check the collent and rad etc thermo as the heater matrix is part of that and it supplies water through the bulkhead to the heater matrix from the thermostat)

other than that nice car . seems a bit iffy tbh with all those issues i believe your bill COULD actually turn out to be more than what a respray would cost tbh.

especially if your going to prefessional as you say your not to wise on the matters.

parts alone -
car - £235
wishbone - £30 - nissan fitting £70 roughly
welding - £50-£100
bearing. depends on which bearing ??? any were from £10 - £50
lights - £5-£15 ranging from adjustment to new bulbs
exhaust £30 a section x 2 - £112 if its got a cat replacment needed
heater - £30 (replacement) then etc if thermo or ne thing else is problematic with it

minimum poss cost £390 approx max cost (not taking into account other accesories or if ne thing else is wrong - £600+

respray £400 - £500 depending were u are in country

drop 1.2 engine in it mate, the 1.0 is ultra weak

The 1.0 is stronger than the 1.2! Fair enough its got less power, but takes a hell of alot more grief than the 1.2

very very true. my white k10 is a proven factor of that.
that thing has handles everything i have shot at it so far. trailoring cars and everythin all over the country.

sorry but i dont believe that the 1.0 is stronger.

I'd no way not ever not even if mine blew up would i use a ma10 engine. there ultra weak compared to the 1.2.

mine takes a beating and is hard as nails.

Dave - mines faster now than when u drove it hehe. make sure you come santa pod 21st august for the micra meet up. i'll let you have ago again mate and u deffinatly wont want a MA10 engine, the white one has gone off to the crusher mate. will come back as coke cans probubly lol. i've still got interior bits on my lawn which i need to get rid of. black carpet, super s door cards and some others, might have to throw um away by next weekend if i cant sell um cause i have no space for um

I use the work "weak" as slang for the power of an engine not the strength of it.

no proof that the 1.0 is stronger, even if it was so what there is no point in having it when the 1.2 is a much more powerful engine and there is no modifications needed to drop it in a previously 1.0 powered k10

What would happen if you dropped a 5-speed gearbox into a 1.0 though???

Wouldn't that make up some of the top-speed difference [I know the acceleration would remain the same]???

With an onboard drive computer I once saw 114 mph from a 1.0 K10 and 5 speed box. This was about 5 years ago, and never happened again. TBH you just get much better motorway MPG with a 5 speed box than a 4 speed (Not the close ratio 5 speed which is not much use IMO).

As for the 1.2 being a stronger block (which does mean tougher, not more powerful) Thats simply incorrect. I know of more 1.2s that have blown than 1.0s on the last 8 years on the MSC even though the 1.0s outnumber the 1.2's by 10:1. This is shown even more clearly by the fact that Nissan NEVER modded or turbod the 1.2s. They were simply too weak for it.

...and this is why Nissan made the ST 930cc isn't it? ;) To strengthen the block even more :)

Actually i find its the opposite. My accelleration has changed loads (for the better) yet the top end is still around the 100 mark.

E.g. i can drive at 100 in 4th, and change to 5th.. but the car doesnt go any quicker, it just reduces the revs by 500 / 1000 - like Ed says, a slight fuel saver!

the close ratio 5 speed simply is a release gear. it takes the stress of the engine by being able to lower the rev range.
the wider ratio box does accelerate still. and i have seen close to 110mph easily and that was with the 1. 2 though :p
but without havign the bigger clocks or it ever dynoed :( un proven unless to the people there.
though the engine is as we speak being rebuilt. and will unlock the potential again :p with a few more additives to it :p

Release gear?! The close ratio 5 speed box was the one that was mainly sold with 1.0 engines (later models) and the 1.2s go the wide ratios as it had more torque. This is not definate since Nissan seems to have swapped about when they felt like it.
