New clutch less meat than old

Hi guys...

Has anyone come across this:

Rebuilding my engine and got to the clutch last night. The brand new friction plate (not bought from Nissan) is about 0.5mm thinner than the old plate. As far as I know this clutch has never been replaced and the engine has done 100,000+ miles....

Is it just a case of better quality friction material being used in new clutches so less is needed?

Cheers, Tom

It's a CG13 (1993) in a mini

It was a kit that contained the pressure plate, release bearing and friction plate. Not sure of the brand
