My K12 Transformation

Hi Guys, I'm a newbie from Newcastle and wanted to share the progress of my K12.
Well, what started as a simple repair, I have been getting a bit carried away.....
2013-10-27 07.57.26.jpg

Firstly had to straighten out the fold as best I could

Started to do some shopping on Ebay for sandpaper, primer, paint etc and spotted a K12 Bodykit which I had to have........... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251362857064?ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1427.l2649

Thought it was an absolute bargain for £60 + Carriage of £25 considering the price to purchase the kit direct from Nissan dealers is £600 + vat, and although the body kit was intended for the 5 DOOR K12, I thought that with a bit of basic DIY skills, I could "make it fit" my 3 DOOR......

When the kit arrived I could see that the side skirts would need trimming where the rear doors would normally be, therefore.....

Used my Jigsaw to chop about 8mm from the rear section and if fitted quite well

I am a complete novice to cars and yet the instructions to fit the Body kit were as simple as building Ikea furniture. I then fitted the Front & Rear sections and then the fenders, and lastly the eyelids as per the detailed instructions.

I was quite pleased with the finished result and was surprised at how much my car had changed.

I realised that I would need a spoiler as It was just missing something and after not finding much of a selection on Ebay, I spotted a spoiler for the MG ZR which the profile looked similar to the Micra http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181186594335?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I thought for the price of £23.50 it was well worth a punt, and decided to buy it.

Upon receiving it I couldn't wait to see if it would fit and immediately went to the car to trial fit it, and to my amazement it would fit without any trouble, except for drilling 4 x 6.5MM holes and buying some M6 x 50mm bolts to fix it securely.

I thought I had grabbed an absolute bargain of a spoiler for £23.50 which would not be too imposing, when I discovered someone on Ebay selling the same Brand New MG ZR Shark Fin Spoilers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290998506728?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

for £14.95 plus £11.95 Carriage and in various colours.
The only difference to the one that I purchased was the brake light colour.
These brand new ones come with a white light, but I suppose you don't really have to connect it up to your current high level brake light or you could invest in a red cree high power LED bulb which would give a nice bright light.

Went through sanding and spraying mine although not finished off yet....

Just awaiting my fixing bolts arriving then I can drill & fit.

Next job I done was changing the appearance of the rear light clusters and ordered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190492098123?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Some smoked vinyl sheet for £4.59

I definately think that for £4.59 it makes a huge difference to the "stock" set up of the rear lights giving them the "Lexus" look but without the hefty price tag.

Well I have to end my first contribution to MSC and will update this post as my work progresses

Next job is removing the badge from the bonnet and tidying up the mess from the bump, think I will be leaving the badge off as it looks really different with the eye lids and no badge.

Thanks, lows & rims definitely going on my shopping list, would appreciate a bit of guidance on suitable rims as there are so many on ebay etc. Going to order my Window tints soon

Awesome :O I like K12s more every day haha. I also love your number plate.

I'm tempted to get this same body kit just for the front and rear bumper extention/spats...things :p
Looks good, makes your base model E look like a higher end SX.
Nice work, can't wait to see the spoiler on ;)
Just be aware that taking the front badge off will leave a pair of little holes. So you'll either have to replace it or smooth it over with filler and paint. ^_^

Edit: forgot to ask, are you gonna body colour the body kit at some stage, or leave it as is?

I would recommend original Nissan wheels, from another spec k12 or a note, as it could have been an option at the dealer it shouldn't be an insurance issue :p
Be carefull how big you go, untill you change the suspension set up it's probably best to get the Nissan recommended 15inch max <_<
...or rubber band tyres lol

Hi Jen, im going to do a full respray once ive finished the external bits, already removed the badge on the bonnet and applied filler so just the finishing to do

Might look like there is a big gap at the side but I took the photos before I fully tightened the bolts as I had to dash out quickly, the finished product looks good and the high level brake lights sit nicely together

That spoiler looks almost like one off a march 12sr or that micra 350sr they did :p
I kinda like it :D

Edit: I guess if your top brake light stops working you kind of have a spare there anyway lol

Progress has slowed down for the Winter so just a few interior bits added over the weekend .......

I also completed a full LED Cree / CanBus lamp conversion / replacement a couple of weeks ago so won't have to change another bulb for a while now

A nice pair of buckets/half buckets would finish this interior so well.
Otherwise it's looking good :)

Yeah they're on my "Micra Most Wanted" list but unfortunately I have to fulfill the list of Santa Claus before I progress, I would put them on my list to the Fat Fella but I know that I'm still on the naughty list indefinitely

Have you thought about upgrading your door mirrors to the electrically powered ones?
I think its easy enough to do.
Get electric mirrors from another k12 (or right age of Renault clio)
And the swith to replace the blank you currently have next to the headlight adjustment control.
Hours of fun

...well...minutes :p

if you're not ready to lower and get a nice set of rims on it, take the bloody hub caps off! and revamp your steelies. steelies are great and cost a fraction of the price of alloys. and all you have to do is sand, prime, and paint. other than that looking good! have you posted the link to the body kit? i may have over read the part if you did link it :) looking good though!

Did your car get through mot with the light tint? I've got some ready to put on :p is it easy to do also? Roping the boyfriend into doing it for me lol

Yeah no problem with the mot, easy to do, just remove the whole light and just take your time trimming to size with a Stanley knife until you are satisfied with it, then just peel the backing and stick it

Well unfortunately I have departed with my micra with much regret, therefore I bid you guy's and gals farewell and will miss the friendly MSC, I have decided to invest in an old favourite of mine, the Lexus IS200 Sport
