Depends what car, what year, standard or aftermarket?
Easiest to open the remote and look.

Just for any future searchers sake, my K12 (slightly oblong key with a lock and unlock button on it) tales a CR2016.

i don't want to remove the battery incase i cannot start the car or what ever as it uses iKey.

This is my key. not literally but its like mine. and i have lost the front cover too lol

A new cover costs £4.49 from a Nissan dealer - and a new battery fitted by them costs £3. Its almost worth just popping in rather than risking it all going wrong!
