Micra manual strange sound

Hi all,

I have a problem with my micra, when i reach 30mph and higher the spinning metallic noise appears. It seems to be coming from the gearstick, it appears only when in gear, when I put it in neutral or press the clutch pedal it disappears. I bought this car about a month ago and I've been told there have been a new clutch installed. I don't believe that to be honest. Could anyone have an idea what that noise is and how to fix it?

Sounds like the symptoms of a new clutch, pressure plate and the old original thrust bearing which would be crass stupidity not to replace when the box is off!

You could put the front up on axle stands and get a buddy to press the clutch on and off in gear with a metal bar to your ear and against the gear box. The metal bar trick can help to get closer to the source of noise in an engine.

if you do, I would remove both front wheels for safeties sake while below the car.. a lesson learnt from someone else’s bad experience!
