Micra K11 Short Shift Leaver ------------

Hi, this ebay number. 320629863549 is a nissan pulsar gear lever, I know the bid has ended but would this lever fit the K11 and work as a short shift, I.e shorter throw? If so would it make a big differrence in gear change?

Cheers

J

not sure if it'll it but i'm sure someone will know.... and yes it will make a big difference between gear changes

I read somewhere that the pulsar shifter is a direct swap and overall a shorter shfter to the k11 shifter, basically an improved difference when swapped with the pulsar shifter.

Cheers

Just to confirm:

N12/N14/N15/GTi-R Short Shifter:

I originally spent lots of energy trying to source a short shifter for the micra. I even built a custom cut and shut style one once. Then it became common knowledge that the N12/N14/N15/GTi-R model Nissans all use identical shifters as the k11!

You can usually find one for sale on Ebay that suits at least one of those models, chances are, it will slot into your k11 perfectly. Many people have installed such shifters now as nothing exists specifically for the k11.

BTW, im also interested in that item and would love to hear any comments about it (Y) I mean the idea of having a short shifter is cool. I drove my friends S14a which has a short shifter and changing gears is just porn :p (Y) I would like to know how that feels on the K11 gearbox?

Thanks,
Alex

ill be getting one of those bad boys when i get paid :p

similar to what alexzaki said, i drove my mates s13 with a short shifter and it just feels so good!

to be fair though, micras dont have the longest travel, ive driven worse like my mates old sierra haha that was like 2 miles between gears!

Franks right. My brother had one fitted and it whined and buzzed constantly. Was very annoying especially when the car had poly bushes all round making the vibrations even worse. Its apparently caused by shifter not having enough washers or something to keep it tight.

grinder FTmofoW :p

If you just grind it its not a "short shifter" as the inner mechanism is still the same and im 100% sure frank knows that hehe as the length between gears is still the same

of course its a shorter shifter alex :glare: simple leverage principals that you are taught at school
(ie, the top of the stick is shorter, so your hand has to move less far)
and what do you mean karl ?

Ok guys i have a question.

Today i took a quick look under the gearbox lever. I will order the Pulsar GTiR short shifter tomorrow and i wanna make sure everything will fit.

1. Is there any difference in short shifters when comparing RHD and LHD?

I also took some pics:

2. So i just unbolt the 4 screws and the whole mechanism drops out or what?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Alex

Ok, i will take my chances and order it although i would be gratefull if anyone could give me an answer to my questions :p

The bolts are under the car 1 holding the shifter to the selector arm and 2 in a bracket holding the lever in place

There shouldn't be any differences between lhd and rhd

Ive ordered my short shifter just now, also want to know would the K11 gear knob fit the gear lever? is it same thread size? cos i got one those lovely red snoooooooker balls fittied in mine and would really get P----D if it wont fit e.t.c......lol

J

I'm sure it will fit. Think micras, almeras, pulsars etc have the same thread. M10 x1.25 I think.

Think it's held on with glue aswell as the screwtop. You'll just need to keep twisting til you break the seal and it loosens off.

You want some proper mole grips easiest way. or a grinder?!
luckily mine had already been undone when i bought the car. that or i am incredibly strong.:laugh:

Just to add here. Yesterday we swaped the stock K11 shifter with the GTiR short shifter and everything is just perfect. A friend of mine somehow removed my gear knob (i couldn't lol). Shifting is awesome now grr. Oh just to add up, the new shifter doesn't rattle at all - at least till now :p We also replaced the stock gear shifter centering spring with a bigger harder one and its just working perfectly with the new shifter.

Mission accomplished :)

Cheers,
Alex

Hi alexzaki, any pictures? mine should be ready today hopefully as im having a 1.3 conversion done and also lucky enough to grab hold of a 1.0L gearbox which was rebuilt 10K miles ago, somehow my gearbox is black and not silver weird stuff!!

I will post pictures of the shifter when i get it back!!

Hey man, i didn't take any pics as we were working at night :( but its as karlj explained.

Here is mine:

- You take the heat shield that's over the 2nd CAT down. It's held with 5 screws.
- You'll notice the bolt holding the shifter to the selector arm. Unscrew it.
- You'll find two bolts in a bracket holding the lever in place, undo them and your almost done (Y) - these two drove me crazy lol because they are long bolts and there is not much space for unbolting them. Just do it slowly.

Replace the old shifter with the new one and that's it (Y) Hope i helped.

Ok here is mine.... no rattles all tight and the short shift feeeeeels F-----G good, specially now i have a 1.3 engine now unbelievable power change!!!... pics below....

Worth the hassel....

wicked look and feels sure in the gear change i bet
i like the way you can customize the existing k11 gear lever into short shift,,by extending the underneath part
leave the top length,, but bend it back slightly,, so its always close to your hand and close to hand break
er dont know if i got that wrong?

Yeah, gotta say, when i drove frank's car the lever was excellent, so why spend £40 on a short shifter? just cut the oe one down and glue to knob back on, and also bend back if you like. The way to go as far as i am concerned.

cheers ed :grinning: like you say cut stick and glued knob eh (no welding) i measured baguete,s pulsar short shifter and it was 80mm lower half, and 240mm top half to the top of the knob (so a 3:1 ratio eh)
mine is also 240mm but the bottom half is less than 80mm, so probably about 3.5:1 ratio
and mine was brought backwards by increasing the curves slightly on the rod (2nd pic)

where did you measure the 240mm from?
and the extra bend in the rod was just to effectively shorten it eh?

i measured from the ball/fulcrum to the bottom bolt ed, then from the ball/fulcrum to the top of the knob, and yes it shortens the gearchange rod (10mm is plenty)

Cheers guys!!!, the pulsar shortshift as you can see is bloody short as i have to lean over to the left a little and the 1st to 2nd and so on is like half inch into gear or little more and feels good in different gear changes, just feels like a new car, as i got the pulsar shifter exact same as alexzaki`s picture above.......

Its worth every bit of 35 quid and thats with postage!!! :p

Hello,
Does anyone knows if the short shifter is a direct fit to the car using the original bolts of the car itself? I mean, in the box came along little parts like bolts, washers and retaining rings. Do I need these or not for the Micra K11 since the Micra K11 only has one bolt holding the shifter in place. Thanks a lot.
