Hi All,

I have just read in this section that I don't need to worry about filling up the gearbox oil until my k11 1.0 has done 100k, which will be sometime as my K11 has only done 39,000miles. However the car is 14 years old and I would have thought that the oil would worn out due to it's age! Would not be easier if I just change it instead? My only problem is what socket do I use for the drain plug and do I need some sort of sealant for the drain plug once undone?.

Most other cars with similar oil types say to changed the gearbox oil every five years... it's usually age vs mileage.

If you do change it make sure you can open the refill plug before you crack the drain loose. Lots of people say they are to break loose... I've never had a problem but I use a breaker bar. There is something on the threads, thread locker or sealant. Clean it off with a wire brush and pop it back in with some thread locker or sealant. As long as it doesn't leak, you're golden

... I personally wait until an inner cv boot needs changing or clutch swap...
