Keys not remotely unlocking car

Hi, I have just bought a 2002 micra and it seems the remote locking isn't working. I can unlock the car using the key in the door but can't get the remote to work. I've changed the batteries in the key and tried the reprogram. Any advice would be helpful.

Does the reprogram work? Do you see the blinkers flash? Because if you dont see it flash once when pairing the keys but do see it flash when you enter programming mode it is most likely a broken remote. (The type of remote that is part of the key fails alot)

The reprogram will enter pairing mode by flashing twice but then won’t flash again after that. I’ll try the other key I have but if that doesn’t work will I have to buy another key?

Most of the time its just the microswitches in the fob that break down. These can be replaced by soldering new ones on. New microswitches are cheap but you need to be able to solder. If you cant solder yourself then id take it to a electronic repair place to fix them.
