K12 replace head unit - ISO colours don't match

I'm fitting a new Pioneer head unit to my K12. In theory it should be straight forward as the Pioneer h/u comes with a harness that takes the two 8 pin ISO female plugs and runs them to its one 16 pin male plug. The harness has the standard ISO colour schemes, these are the female plugs:

Speakers:
Green stripeWhite stripeGrey stripePurple stripe
Green solidWhite solidGrey solidPurple solid

Power:
Black (ground)Orange (illumination)Yellow (12v constant in)- empty -
Red (accessory / 12v switch)Blue (12v out)- empty - - empty -

The problem is that male plugs on the K12 loom have very different coloured wires, and also different pin locations:
White *WhiteGreenGreen *
Red *Red *Red *Yellow *
Green *- empty - - empty - Red *
Black * (thick)GreenBrown *Yellow *

I'm figuring that it won't work if I plug the new into the old, not least because the new yellow 12v constant pin mates with an empty location on the old plug.

Has anyone seen this weird wiring scheme on the old male plugs on the K12 loom? If so, advice on which wire is what would be appreciated. If not, advice on deciphering the old wires would be welcome! Is it a matter of using a tester to find the 12v constant, accessory and ground, and then trail and error for the speakers?!

Maybe this might help with the wire colors and meaning.
