K12 Micra Problems

Hi Folks

A friend of mine bought a second-hand K12 Micra last year and has had several problems with it, can anyone offer any suggestions about these please? Are they normal or has she just been unlucky with the car? I spoke to her on Sunday about what she thought was an engine oil leak and I got this email from her yesterday:

"Thanks for your advice and help over the phone.

The black stuff is actually wax - they put a wax coating over the gasket and
that sometimes melts and leaks but it is not a fault with the car.

The engine oil is fine and is not leaking. However the gearbox oil is
leaking - this is the golden looking oil - this is what they fixed in
December, and has now come apart again - they are replacing every gasket for
me, faulty or not, in order to eliminate the problem. The burning smell is
possibly the clutch - they will road test and look into that see if it needs
replacing.

The central locking needs fixing and the boot needs to be recalled and
replaced.

I already have a new starter motor and ignition barrell - at this rate the
car is undergoing a complete transformation!

Question - although it might be a q you can't answer - given the amount of
work done on the car, do you think it will be okay and durable once the
problems are fixed, or do you reckon there is an underlying defect within
the car which means I will always have problems with it? I'm debating
whether to take it as red that the car will be fixed, or just get them to do
it up so I can sell it.

Might be similar to "how long's a piece of string" but your comments would
be helpful if you have any more advice for me.

Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated! I've never heard of putting wax on a gasket, I've already suggested she finds an alternative garage...

the recalls for the boot/locking and ignition were a common fault on the earlier k12's, Nissan fixed this during the recall.

as for the leak, wait to see if the new gaskets throughout solve this. i've not heard of this being a common fault.

while your looking for problems see if a knocking noise can be heard (whilst driving) from the rear of the car, the bolts used to hold parts together are the wrong length on some of the earlier cars, this was another problem fixed with the recall.

to keep it or not is up to her really, does she want to have a car that has gone wrong. all of the problems were fixed during recalls, only the oil leak to figure out really. in my opinion the car will be ok when all is fixed but it's up to her if she wants something else.
