To cut a long story short, my sister has a little micra convertible. The car went in for a service and since then she has not been able to start it. Phoned Nissan and they have quoted nearly 1400 for a new column as it's a common fault but the new part may not cure it. I have taken the ignition barrel off and swapped it with one from a breakers. The problem is I cannot turn the barrel. It is in the '0' position with the steering lock off. I have also tried taking the switch off the back and turning it with a screwdriver.. this puts the ignition lights on but when turned to cranking position, the gauges shoot up and then back down to zero.
Any help would be much appreciated as I am running out of ideas! The car is way too good to break
