K10 cant get it to run correctly!

I got another engine to use while i am rebuilding my other one. I have just installed it with a home made exhaust manifold (just manifold and not full system is installed) and lightened fly wheel and it will not idle. I have played with the idle and its only when i turn the idle screw almost all the way in that it runs and idles but when it first starts its reving sooo high and a bit rough. I have set the dizzy roughly in the middle. The only thing that is missing is a condensor from the alternator as it broke.

What do you think?

has it got 4 good compressions ? (push the car in 3rd gear if you have no pressure tester)

Thanks for the reply. I just pushed it in 3rd and they all seem ok end even.

and you,ve used the original carb ? (the capacitor on the alt is just for radio interferance reasons iirc)

The second engine didnt come with one so i used the one that was on the original engine.

bit of a puzzle then eh, check the cambelt is timed up ok maybe ?

I dont seem to have much luck really.... Yeh ill check the cambelt tomorrow.

I found the problem.... it was me!!

In a rush connected the dizzy up incorrectly leaving a hose off on the inlet manifold so it was an airleak! all sorted Simple stuff just overlooked...
