iPod / Sony Xplod / K11

Hi all,

I am thinking about getting a 2nd hand cheap iPod for my car, I have a 1995 pre facelift K11 with a Sony X-plod CDX-L400X headunit. Do you think its possible to connect the iPod to the headunit?

From the manual of the headunit I can't see as it has inputs for an iPod etc, but I would have thought you could connect a multi changer etc somehow. The manual is here : http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3236849141.pdf

Could anyone help me to tell me if its possible please?

A lad at work has a more modern X-plod headunit for sale for £60 (which he says has iPod connectors) and i'd be tempted to get that for the upgrade if necessary.

Cheers.

yeah it is possible as ive done it myself, i bought an am/fm transmitter with a 3.5mm jack output lead which plugs straight into the iPod, its real easy to fit and all the instructions come with it...check around at local car places :) my mates also got this different thing that plugs into your cigarette lighter, u set the station the same on the connector and the headunit and it manages to play the same way as a radio would

cheers mate, I think I could go that way but what I think I want to try and look for is a cable solution which goes from the iPod mounted in my glove box to the back of my headunit.

speak to your local Ripspeed specialist at halfords and ask for an I-link. or even a "connects-2"

about £19.99

cheers gurpreet, i havn't got a cd changer, and havn't managed to prise the headunit out actually to see if I have a connector for a CD changer, looking at the manual though I don't think i have!

What is ilink and connects 2?

Connects 2 is the second web link I posted and you need a CD changer port for it. Its great as you can have full control over your iPod from the Head Unit and see text information..

Right now.. I think your best option might be to get an iPod FM transmitter.. and pick up the iPod on an FM radio station! If you're worried about power then you can connect a car charger to your iPod.

Another idea... some Blaupunkt amplifiers have direct connect where you can connect your iPod into the RCA... but more costs and wiring involved...

but having said all that I suggest you get the modern xplod the guy at work is selling... you'd be better off... much easier too!
