Induction kit/air filter

Basically I'm looking at getting an induction kit or just an air filter.
How would I fit it? Do I take the box off? Or leave it on etc. I'm useless with this sort of stuff so help would be apreciated!
I'm looking at just the filter (mushroom bit) but would I need a full kit?

You don't really want the filter straight on the throttle body as it would just draw in hot air. Something as simple as a pipe with the filter on the end would be sufficient. Alternatively, a 1.6 airbox from an almera or 100nx with a K&N in it provides a bit more torque and a nice induction noise. Got one of these on mine, simple to fit, sounds really good, maybe slightly more power at high revs lol.

What about the existing airbox? Could I not take the filter out and put the mushroom on the end of the air intake by the radiator?
