imp124's SUPER TURBO

This one can definetly beat a done up VTR and VTS naturally aspirated, although i havnt rook it over 70 obviously but goes very will up to it, yes im keeping the super s and running that and getting the ST sprayed etc

id be tempted to go with a cg g/box, but then you will loose the lsd, but iirc mat humphries does them, so theres always options out there.

ok will do need to got the head sorted too, i dont know if its linked or this may be the problem all a long but every single plug i took out had a cracked ceramic?

Could be from over tightening the plugs. might not be linked at all

ok, seeing though the cars not running brill at the moment i have decided to clean up the engine a bit more and spray a few bits and pieces, pics tomorrow when its lights again :(

Oh my goodness you lucky lad - looks so lush! :) (far too many 'L's in that sentence)
Sorry to hear it's not running too great, I hope you get it sorted soon! (Y)

Just thought i would add this as it was a nice day :p

Sent this to Kev for possible inclusion in the MSC calendar

The ST goes in for the head gasket hopefully on wednesday, i have received a new Figaro head gasket, rocker gasket, thermostat, cambelt mushroom washers for the rocker etc etc etc, all genuine Nissan so should work ok.

Gave her a good clean today and ringing up about the respraying on tuesday.

Im just trying to get everything working as it should and nothing 'half a job' all the coolant pipes, HT leads, Boost and vac lines have been replaced with coloured ones, and some of the original coloured have been cleaned up.

Should be really good, just figureing out how to make a set of ST rear badges and door decals as they have faded to black and can hardly be seen.

Cheers

Steve

Ok had a really busy (by that meaning also expensive) week, been making gaskets for the ST as i had to strip the engine down, had all the head faced up, valves reground polished head and also ordered a PROPER head gasket, still looking for a manual gearbox but dont exactly know what gearbox i should put in, weather it would be a prefacelift k11 box or if they did the ST in a manual? and look for an original box with an LSD?

well that's all the progress for now, just waiting for the new engine block from ED, but have pleanty to do in the mean time

Steve :)

Alright man,I'm sorrry If my advice to get the fig h/gasket caused the block to be damaged:( Anyway as I said I used the original st gasket new from nissan when they were still avalable nearly 3 years ago now(Obviously why mine is still running perfect) but warren off here and a few other have used ma10 gaskets with no problems so maybe the power your car was running is to blame.
If I had to split the head from the block again(no doubt I will need to at some stage) I will be getting the gasket you have bought(Y)

As regards the st/k11 gearbox situation you know I have an st one there if you'd like to make an offer

Baz

There was already a figaro looking head gasket on the head when i took it off, not the one i bought, that will be sold on as i havent took it out of the packet.

Is the ST gearbox at Ed's unit? that will be something to consider when i actually get it running again :D and i gather my funds back which are rapidly dissapearing :p

Steve

No I never got a St box of barry. I nearly did but never finalised it.

Quick update:

Block came today cheers Ed!, i didnt know couriers were up at 7:55am!! :D

looks ok, should get everything skimmed up sometime next week and still got a lot of new gaskets to make.

How long did that take to arrive? ffs

Ed posted it on wednesday so looking at it that way it didnt take long at all, been making gaskets all day, my kitchen table looks like something off blue peter :D

Steve said he wasnt in a rush :p then kept asking when it would arrive hahaha :):) Glad you got it all ok !

not in a rush as i know that bad thing DO happen when you rush ANY job lol :), also i will admit i was in a weird way excited it was getting fixed

i just got some bits done ahead of schedule lol got all my new gaskets made, just need to ring ferriday engineering about the head gasket.

Quick question Ed, do you agree with my measurements that the bore dia is 66mm?

Cheers

Steve

Yes the bore is 66mm stroke is 68mm. However the head has a 'bore' diameter of 68mm THIS is the mistake I made with my last prototype head gasket - so is vital to get this right if doing a head gasket. Top tip get it made for 68mm NOT 66mm.

right cheers for that Ed, could have dropped a 'clanger' there :p so is the bore diameter without sleeves ? are the figaro head gaskets not 68mm or are they bigger?

cheers

Steve

I have to old st gasket and measuring them roughly with a ruler lol:wasntme:
they are 68-70mm,don't see why a fig one won't work:suspect:

Update:

right busy day, i rang ferriday engineering, after a long convosation about what power i will be running (i said absolute MAX 1.2 bar) and max 130bhp (being optomistic) he said the Fig gasket would be more suitable than a custom, i had to agree as i have never known an engineering company to refuse trade. So i think i will stick with the fig gasket, tried it on the block and seems to fit without a problem.

I also took my cylinder block and head into my local engine specialist's, they are going to skim / face up both the block and head, he also recommended having the bores honed (at £5 a bore i couldnt complain)

Cheers

Steve

Quick question for Baz and / or Ed:

as above i have been recommended the figaro gasket by ferriday engineering but dont know what you think about this. I can understand why Ed had a custom head gasket with the power he was running his St at but considering im not planning to go above 1.2 bar i just wanted to see what everyone thought of this as i obviously dont want this to happen again, but is it worth £167 for a new gasket?

Cheers

Steve

Why do we have to go over the same things over and over Steve? It's up to you if you want the uprated, personally I think you have nothing to lose using the fig gasket,as I said time and time again mine is 151hp running just under 1.2 bar(1.18 is the peak) and is running a standard st gasket the fig one is the same oem quality and if your happy with the dimensions and as I see above you seem to be then go for it.
If the engine is built properly all torques checked and rechecked it should be fine

Baz

btw, not given out(Y)

i just dont want to have to spend the same amount again if this was the original cause :D

ok cheers i just wasnt too sure if you lot thought this could have been it, i will proceed with the figaro gasket. getting it back together slowly now

cheers
