How to get started?

This may have already been answered but i searched and did not find anything so im going to ask.

I was just wondering how I could get started in rally driving. I really want to do this as a hobby and would love to know how to start. Could anyone give me any tips and advise on how to get into rallying. I know you need a national B license (i think) but how do i actually practise rally driving, is there a website that lists local rally schools at all, because i google questions about rallying and it all seems really vague (im probably not typing in the right things lol)

Thanks, Scott.

First thing would be to join your local motor club wherever that may be. Attend a few meetings and ask anything you need to know to the more experienced competitors. Another tip would be to marshal on a couple of events so you get to know the in's and out's. Try and do a few autotests as well before you jump straight into a rally. Very good place to start to get a feel of the car and learn some very good car control.

Once your ready, you will then need to attend a course to gain your National B rally licence for stage rallying if that's what you want to do. This will set you back around £220+ minimum.Could be more by now as I did it 2 years ago.

Once you get this, you then need a car. Advice would be to get something pretty basic you can maintain yourself and get something 1400 to start with. Don't jump in at the deep end. Start with a single venue rally so you get the idea of how rallies. The for forestry, BTRDA do a Rally First class which is bog standard cars up to 1400cc with just all the safety features and uprated suspension. Plus, you get £50 off each entry fee. A good place to start and with minimal tyre wear and minimal petrol consumption.

But you will need some deep pockets even for the cheaper cars. Expensive hobby but by hell it's addicitve and fun!!!

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Scott
As been said above your local motor club is a good place to start and autotests are great fun (and there cheap :p)
I would recommend visiting a rallyschool, they will teach you the basics and it gives you a chance to see if you like it or not. I see your in Bradford the closest rallyschools to you that i know of are, Ti rallyschool http://www.tirallyschool.co.uk/ , rallyschool.co.uk & oulton park do a rally course too.
Not sure if you have spectated at a rally before but it would be worth visiting an event to see how there run and what goes on. Try here http://www.itsmymotorsport.co.uk/Rally_Events.htm gives you dates for most uk events.
Go motorsport is a good site for beginers info You could try here for a bit more info http://www.gomotorsport.net/en-GB/default.html

Forgot to mention there is a rally show on this weekend in Chesterfield well worth a look for info etc.
Also maybe worth having a look at www.formula1000.co.uk a championship for 1000cc rally cars and probably the cheapest way to start.
