help with keys

hi everyone, we have a micra passion r reg and have only ever had one key for it. I now have 2 spare keys but they need coding. the keys are NATS and are black with a red chip. Nissan want £37.50 plus vat each to code them. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to get this done without going through nissan. I am based in cheshire so anywhere with m,sk,cw wa, postcodes will do.

cheers

I came across a few mobile outfits on the net yesterday that say they can code Nissan keys, whether or not they'd be any cheaper than Nissan dealers I don't know.
I also saw that some of the handheld diagonstic devices can do the job too, these are much more common in none-dealer garages these days too.

cheers for the advice but heres another question.

from what ive read the NATS only effects the ignition barrel ? if this is correct then what if i take the chip out of the key that works and mount it next to the barrel on the inside. realisticaly then all keys should work as the chip is always in place.?

Deane Security in Bolton sold me a new key for a P reg Micra.
They copied the key and the chip without touching the car.

This was a few years ago. I am sure that they would also come out and do it.

just to give you an update on this.
If you take the casing off the steering column you will see that there is a piece of round plastic which surrounds the barrel. If you stick the red plastic holder with the chip inside behind the ring with the opening of the red holder facing you then it works. you should locate it at about 25 past for the best results. Use a good glue and back it up with tape.( you never know) Obviously this does bypass the standard imobiliser. That shouldnt matter if you have had a customer fit alarm/imobiliser. It does save on the cost of having new keys coded. nissan wanted £37.50 +vat for each key they coded and some auto locksmiths were quoting over £150. Tube of glue £4.95 ;-)

Yeah I lost one of my keys I really need another as I'm a bit rubish with keys in general and it's only a matter of time before I lose the spare.:glare:
I went to Timpson they had the key but no way to code it when i asked how much it would be from Nissan he said over £100. I saw on Timpson website you can call them out and maybe they can code the key alot cheaper than Nissan but ain't tried yet.
