Heater constantly on hot

Hey there, first time posting to the forum :)

My wife and I got our first micra last year (second hand - 2012 Nissan Micra Visia 1.2L K13-U4) and it's been fantastic, however we've got a problem that we didn't notice over the winter, but as it's getting a bit hotter it's becoming a pain.

No matter where we turn the temperature dial for the blower, it is always at a hot temperature. i was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or has an inkling how to fix it? I've downloaded the workshop manual to paw through, but can't seem to find anything that would fix it. I was thinking perhaps a resistor needs replacing or something.

I usually try to fix things myself, however I'm certainly no mechanic or electrician!

Any advice would be gratefully recieved!! :)

Hi,

I know this is a slightly old topic but just in case you (or anyone else) is still having this problem...

We had the same problem on my wife's K13. There is a cable that runs from the temperature control knob to the air mix door control linkage. It operates similar to how a bicycle brake cable works, i.e. outer sheath/casing with an inner cable that runs through the middle. I our case the outer casing had become detached from it's mounting point at one end, meaning it moved when the knob was turned instead of the inner cable being moved.

The fix was simply a case of slotting the outer sheath back in to it's holder. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics at the time I fixed it.

However, have a look in the workshop manual (http://manytodo.com/downloads/Micra K13/Nissan Micra K13 Workshop Manual.pdf) in section HAC-149 to HAC-150, it gives details of how to check the air mix control cable. Although it mentions removing the Foot Duct, I found this wasn't needed in our case. I was able to access the cable fine by removing the A/C cluser lid and Audio unit (see Workshop manual: IP-16, steps 10 & 11).

If you still have the problem and are struggling with following the less than clear pictures in the manual, let me know and I'll see if I can pop the covers off and get you some pics.

Regards,
Dave

Just fixed this on my 2012 K13 (with manual temperature controls, not aircon equipped). Remove the radio air vent facia - pulls off with a little gentle persuasion. Remove and disconnect radio - 4 obvious screws and 3 electric cables - watch out as 2 retaining lugs from the radio use the lower facia cover that cover the vent and heater controls, so hold it in place as you pull out the radio. Pull off the squarish knob from the recirculating slide control (friction fit), then pull off the small facia that covers these. With a torch you’ll see how the hot/cold cable (like a bicycle brake cable) controls a white coloured lever arm - mines had slipped off the lever arms lug, so was just pushing and pulling fresh air when you turned the hot cold arm! Was able to put the circle end of the cable back over the retaining lug of the white plastic arm. Question will be how long will it last as the white lever arm is obviously get sticky!

Hi Dave,

It's been a while since you posted this but I have a similar problem to yours expect that for me, I only have cold air venting in the car and no heat at all. I would need to access the cable which controls the knob and didn't quite see well on the manual's pictures how to do this. Would you be so kind and provide some pics of your own ? Sorry for the trouble, but I would really appreciate your help !

Thanks,
Aymeric.

I had the same issue but it was due to the lever that the cable moves becoming stiff so the tension was causing it to spring off it’s holding lug. I couldn’t see how to oil or loosen the lever so had to araldite a washer over the end of the lug to stop the cable springing off due to the tension caused by trying to overcome the resistance of the stiff lever!

Mine was doing the same, just fixed it, the hot / cold cable had popped out of its retaining groove, this is on the left hand side of the heater box / right hand side of the glove box, popped it back into the groove, seems ok so far, only had to remove the top fascia panel and ease the radio out of position, might be accessible from the side of the glove box, good luck
