Has anyone replaced their Exhaust on their K10?

My exhaust has given way in 3 places, so I took the full system off at the weekend. I had the cut the back box off, since i was unable to get out from under the car. I then sheared of the bolts where the exhaust meets the manifold. My day was going pretty smoothly so far, but my question is what do i need to drop out at the back to get the new back pipe back under the car? Proving to be a bit of a challenge, tonight i have to take the alternator off & then take the manifold off too :)

Anyone got any advice? Should have asked first :p

Current view, no exhaust any where on the car

According to the haynes manual nothing but the exhaust needs to come loose, however unbolting the shocks from the rearaxle and lowering that would make it easy enough :)

Nah the manifold should be fine, I will heat up the excess thread & put in a new thread. Yes the I was going to try unbolting the shocks, hoping that will help me! I was thinking of heading up up to JAP fest this weekend, but doubt i will get my car finished by then! :( boo

Maximum and hours work to fit the exhaust providing you have the correct tools and 2 or 4, If possible axle stands. You dont need to go near the shocks just fit it in sections front to rear

really? There is no space to get the exhaust back under, i had to cut the broke exhaust to get it off! I will try it out tonight :)

This is rakas old micra? since it has coilovers the rear axle and wheels might not drop low enough when its lifted to allow for exhaust to be fitted

Yes rakas old micra :)

And yes, I think that is the case :( I think i will have to drop the whole back end down, then fit the exhaust! Should be a fun day :p

I did score 2 new brackets for the gear lever yesterday, they are not cheap. My gear lever had dropped & was resting on the top of the exhaust.

Bagged & complete with part number incase anyone has the same issue :)

Old brackets on the left & new replacements on the right.

Make sure you keep the original screws & bolts, the new brackets don't come with either ;)

It not hard to drop the rear axle by removing the bottom bolts from the shocks when the car is jacked up. I had to do this to get my old exhaust out. Have you got another exhaust manifold sorted?

I had the same problem with the gear linkage rubbers but managed to fix it with exhaust rubbers and two nut and bolts :)

Thanks guys, I didn't have a chance this weekend! To busy drinking & hungover ;) I think i will have to unbolt the rear axel, its so low on the coilover's that there no room what so ever!

As for the manifold, will have to unbolt that one evening & drop it down the garage.

I use my bike for work, so I am in no rush to get it finished. It did get a wash at the weekend, looks nice & shinny for a car which just sits on the drive :)

Cut the backbox of and replace it with a 4-5" straight, simple solution :D

Take the bottom bolts out from the shock on the rear, job done

Yeah i think that is going to be the plan, just got a second set of axle stands & a jack. So when this rain stops this week i will get stuck it.. Of course there is the manifold issue to deal with first.

Managed to get the manifold off pretty easily, which is always nice! Best get a new gasket for the manifold this week now :)

Not handy when you shear these two off :(

One manifold off :)

Maybe once i have two new threads on there, I should clean it up, a little wire brush action & spray it up.. any idea's?

Just use fire gum instead of gasket :) works great.

Sounds interesting :)

Ordered my manifold gasket, manifold studs & nuts from my local Nissan Dealer, so should start putting everything back on the car tomorrow evening :)

Car could be back on the road for the weekend :) sick

Just let it run on idle for like 10min to let the fire gum harden, or you risk just blowing it away

Front pipe on, re-used original bracket, dropped down rear axel & squeezed exhaust over it :)

End result, its on :) Sitting a little low, so might need a tweek at some point:)

I do have a question, having replaced the gear selector mount I am finding changing gear is a little tight. Anyone else replaced this part & experience the same issue?

Might even treat my self to some new tires with all this rain!

Ok, i might have an issue :( Looks like i haven't got the exhaust on right, i think its way to low!

It's not just me is it? Or does this look a little low in the middle?

Thanks

James

It looks ok to me, i got mine on and found the rear bit that goes round the fuel tank knocking a tiny bit when i reversed

had to jiggle it about (hammer) and bend a few brackets to get it in the right place :)
