Wha Tank
it would seem that my membership is now up

not that i want to go gettin myself banned or anything cause thats just pointless.
just got a few points to make and before i say anything, arnold lol dont go editing this! i know your bad for that...

I think its totaly apauling that kev and ed take money of their dedicated members each year to stay a full member of the club. i understand that theres the costs to run the web site but i mean cumon... with the amount of new members each year, im more than willing to bet that it more than covers all your fees?

you guys make out like all the money goes back into the club but it really doesnt. you guys charge for absoloutely everything. now i understand again that you cant work for free maintaining the website but again, with the ammount of new members each year, thatl more than cover the cost.

if thats not the case then post up a receipt for the website fees to prove to your dedicated members that your not just taking them for a ride.

it is worth it joining the club but not to be charged every year you want to remain a member.

i know theres some guys out there whol think the same but just dont want to open there mouth because evertime a member does stand up and speak out, kev, ed, james and arnold penolise them and make a fool of them and somehow manage to turn everything around.

i hate to see some innocent comment from a new comer to the site asking for a small piece of advice because their micra has broken down or somethin to that effect.
yet the only reply they get is "join the club" and a link to the payment part of the msc.

im not looking to get banned, i just really dont like how the club is run

im not against paying atall, but taking money of your members every year is just scandalous

sorry to nag

The membership fees do not just go towards the running of the site. At shows such as JAE, a lot of money is returned to the members in things such as food, drinks. The club had to buy a new BBQ and Gazebo this year for occassions such as this too.

I do not feel ripped off in the slightest. If you want a dedicated forum, it takes peoples time and effort to get it up and running. Kev does not make any profit from this forum what so ever! Due to the size of this website, the cost of running it is rather high. It is needed to run on a large sized server, and as everything happens in real time it is not cheap.

This is an excellently run club!!! I will stand by Kev, Ed, James, Arnold, in the running of this club!

I bet you don't realize how much time and Effort Kev puts into the club, Ed puts into helping others, James puts into maintaining the website, and Arnold into keeping things neat and tidy around the forums.

I do not feel ripped off in the slightest. If you want a dedicated forum, it takes peoples time and effort to get it up and running.

Got to say i agree with u Ollie. From the moment I signed up I never felt like it was a waste of money. I've been really happy with everything i've done on my car.

Whether it is a rip off or not, it's only £10 a year, that's nothing. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than garage fees considering the amount of problems that get solved on here.
For that small price you get pretty much expert help 24/7. Still it's up to you.

*hopefully this is right* :)

i think i worked out that a £10 membership over the course of a year equals to £00.03 or 3p a day!! and for that you can spend a whole day on the msc replying to any thread you like!!! no post limit! pm function! guides that help out alot!

£10 a year is nothing!! its actually the cheapest thing i spend on in a year lol!!! everything todo with the car costs more (tax, petrol), presents costs more. meals costs more. i think everything is more expensive then the MSC membeship :) and this is one thing i enjoy being apart of and i can be part of it everyday and its only costing me 3p!!! hehe

ben; are you going for good if dont mind me asking?

Napster, £10 a year equals 0.02739726027397260273972602739726 Pence per day!!! I'll let your rounding to 2 D.P. be acceptable though!!! lol

haha lol!!!! yeah Ollie i got that far and then roughly inputted numbers and times them etc!!! lol.

thought better to be simple then silly!!! :)

Yes put rounding to 0.03p per day equates to £10.95 per year!!! lol.

Bench_FS, did you think about what you were writing, or do any research at all? The money goes towards more than just the website!!

i was expecting smart a**e comments from the likes of you lol!

yes i did do research, i looked many times at the part about what the money all goes to so please dont try and patronise me :)

Not trying to be patronizing. If you wish to not be an official member, then don't be. Most members are happy with how the website is run and where the money is used.

I feel that this thread is pointless. You could have just stuck at being a junior member, or just said good bye without being harsh towards the running of the club.

Got a feelin this thread will be locked

just thought id try and open some peoples eyes

anyway, take it easy:p

probably best this gets locked and or removed because chances are that its going to get out of hand

The reason people speak out like they do is because they all know we don't do this for the money, we do it because we have a passion for the Micra.
I know Ollie (and many more on here) personally and he knows I don't make a penny from this website, nor does Kev (and the amount of hours of work that he puts into this club is nothing short of heroic).

Pretty much any "owners club" format website charges renewal, but most don't reduce the fee after the first and second years, whereas we do!

I'll let Kev decide whether he wants to show the receipts or not but to be honest I don't think you'll get many people on here siding with your point of view. The amount of members that renew even though they don't even have a Micra any more is testament to the community that has been created here.

If you've got some problem with the club and don't like it here then you know where the door is.

James.

I was a member here before the mmn changed to micra.org.uk. Things have changed here alot. The pm feature has been taken away from non members & selling is now only limited to paid 'full' members. TBH I dont agree nor disagree with you Bence. I run an online community that has a very popular forum - I understand the costs involed - but then I've been to a few santa pod meets over the years. The club is more than the net presence. Running a website like this doesnt cost much at all - but as ollie said there are more tangeble purchases. I bought a trial membership. I've looked hard. My conclusion is that full members must have access to more areas of the forum than trial members. I can only find a handfull of guides for k10. I guess I was hoping for more. I'm prepared for the cyber beating I will no doubt have to take after citing my opinion :)

I live in australia and therefore don't get as much back for my membership as a uk member will. However, as there is no other resource for me to refer to for information about Super Turbos I wanted to give something back to the site as I know i will use it...so i paid my fees on the principle that I will use the site and don't feel that these people should just be giving me all the free info I want and expect nothing in return. I am happy to pay my fees and I am always happy that i get a quick response to any of teh questions i have asked so far...all the people mentioned above are the ones who are usualy there with an answer. As far as I'm concerned I get my money's worth and am happy to keep paying for my membership...I really dont care if they are making a profit at least they are putting the time in to maintaining the site.

Sorry you feel ripped off.

Life's too short to throw your toys out the pram cos you dont want to lose a tenner...

This is one of the nicest atmosperes on the web and im still on it even tho i dont own a micra...

Made friends through the site and my knowledge has increased ten fold over the years just by frequenting the site every so often...

my membership is running out and i may or may not renew but i aint gonna cry over a tenner...

i personally get annoyed with the 'IMO its a rip off' threads cos if i felt it weren't worth it i would just leave... Simple

Again, lifes to short...

don't why he's complaining,

i've only been a member of the site a few months now and no nothing about cars apart from driving them and turning in the system. the £10 for the membership is the best £10 i've spent this year and will carry on doing so, cos like at lot of you have said it has help me out to do thing to my car that i never knew i could do.

iam one happy member

kev & ed well done lads on an excellent club and another 10 years

this website is a great website, i will always be a member on here just because of the friends i have made. i recommend it to everyone i meet with a micra and i know that i am responsible for at least two fully paid members.

when i first came to this forum i didn't know ANYTHING about cars, i thought my k11 was a carb engine... but now i know enough JUST from this site, to be able to change my whole engine, gearbox, clutch, suspention etc.

i did all that on a cheap £100 micra, which now runs like a dream, the cost of getting a garage to do it would have been £400. so i am saving money right there. this is an education as well as a comunity.

personally i wouldn't mind at all if all the top MSC people were making some money off this site because i think they work hard enough to deserve it. i owe alot to this site, the friends i have made, the advice, what i have learned, the access to parts, meets, etc.. i am paying even if it is just to give something back.

the point is that it is only £10 which is nothing really, no one makes you pay it, if you don't think its worth it then don't pay it.

and don't forget what you got free in your membership pack, that isn't free, and i am sure it is not free to get spaces at events.

I've been expecting a thread like this, been a while since one was raised on the forum.

I have no problems with posting up figures and accounts for the MSC and have done so on request on previous occasions.

Personally Bence_Fs, I feel some of your comments are unjust and far from accurate, I make time to listen members, act upon their requests and deal with issues that arise. My PM box alone has 2400+ messages stored in it. I certainly do not make fools of members.

I would also like to point out that since handing over the responsibility of Chairman to me, Ed now has no dealings with the MSC financies other then the hosting renewals I send him every 3 months, which is actually a good competitive price.

I will be publishing the MSC accounts shortly, I was actually working through them over Christmas and was intending to publish them anyway. It was a busy time of year for me and I need to get back on top of the accounts and get an overview of the figures.

Some sample costs alone for the MSC on a 12 month period.

Hosting £520
Admin Costs £700 ( I will break these down in the main accounts)
Show Costs £500 Mainly Donny and JAE
Sticker Orders £200 a year average
Forum upgrades £25
Paypal Charges £200
Bank Charges for the club A&L a few ££'s but I need to get a figure on this.

The club rarely makes a substantial profit and if it does this is put into show's like JAE, which gets more money spent on it every year to improve it for YOU the members.

Some months the MSC has a very low intake on membership and few renewals, actually while I'm on this subject I will be dropping gold renewals to £10.00 as this is basically a bronze type membership anyway and £15.00 in my opinion is too much. Anyone who has gone Gold will only be issued with a £5 renewal to go platinum next time round, rather then £10.00. Basically from now on anybody renewing there Membership will only pay £10.00

Last year the club needed a new printer, so I purchased a Colour Laser Printer, this will be shown in the accounts, a large expense but saves money on printing show flyers and the quality is superb. Also means that any paperwork sent out is printed to a high standard. This printer should last the lifetime of the club and when I choose to pass on the responsibilities of the club to a new chairman the printer will go with it.

I don't even get the chance to post much on the forum anymore, this is simply due to what time I do get on the MSC is mainly dealing with admin related topics such as this one for example.

My very busy lifestyle, combined with a VERY demanding job means my time is very short, however I still make time for the MSC and push it forward.

I've always said, give me a PM with any thoughts or queries on the club and I will do my best to answer them.

Kev

im not against paying atall, but taking money of your members every year is just scandalous

sorry to nag

Renewals also made up nearly £600 of the total income in 2007, so in effect yes the MSC needs renewals of some sort to help with financies.

Kev

I really don't understand why he brought this up. Yes hundreds of people join the MSC every year. But exactly how many of these people pay for full membership?

You say they are basicly being robbed of their money just to find out about their car? That's total poop. You can read hundreds of threads without paying a penny. You don't need to pay to read or reply, or even ask questions.

the look on Kevs face when the tents blew away last year and 2006 at jae are worth the £10 alone..lol

not to mention seeing alans facial expresions the morning after.

i have found lots of stuff on here i wouldnt have even thaught existed before.

you simply cannot find anything on the internet without coming here first. the resources are tremendous. why should anyone do this for free?

is your favorite porn site free? (probebly but they host adverts, we do not)
i personaly pay more for cool tools on Faceparty than the entire membership to the largest micra forum in the world...........

thats a bargain, afterall a haynes manual is double this price...

i hate to see some innocent comment from a new comer to the site asking for a small piece of advice because their micra has broken down or somethin to that effect.

i disagree, all the guys have always been helpfull to me, even when i was not a full member and i'm still a newcomer so still ask questions that on other forums i would be larfed at for. but on here it will happily be answerd

this guy couldn't be more wrong!

and NO you are no entitled to your opinion if its like that!

sorry if I sound like an arse I think its a bloody joke! charging people to have an unlimited post count and to pm!!! Yea membership area's are great for people who want to pay for it. In my opinion the forum isnt alive enough for me to fork out £10.

(THIS IS NOT A TROLL JUST AN EXAMPLE)

take www.sxoc.co.uk for example, they have the forum to open with everything working, pm's ect, and then they have a private area for paid members which is good!

Ill carry on making new accounts when i reach the 100 post limit (Im on my second account, soon to be a third) posting my knowledge if I dont get banned o_O

Ryan.

My haynes manual for £3 on ebay, brand new hard back :D

MSC isn't just a forum though, it's a car owners club and no COC is free.

sxoc.com is a car owners club. and like I said theres a private section for the paid members, but for unpaid members all the infomation is still there to post in.

If you are dedicated to your micra like most of us you would see £10 a year is nothing compared to what you get back

Ill carry on making new accounts when i reach the 100 post limit (Im on my second account, soon to be a third) posting my knowledge if I dont get banned o_O

to be honest then you should get banned, especially as you just informed admin of that! If you keep making accounts you obviously want to be here so pay up!

I like being here looking at other peoples micra's, but im not going to spend a tenner to do that.

Seeing as you have complete disregarde for our forum rules and don't mind telling everyone, your account(s) has been banned for 3 days. If this continues to happen then your forum access will be blocked.

Slightly off/on topic - Kev how come the web hosting is so much? If you prefer not to say in public could you PM me the details? I'd be very interested to know as this seems very high!

Ed is best person to speak to as regards hosting

Kev

just got a few points to make and before i say anything, arnold lol dont go editing this! i know your bad for that...

Threads/posts are only edited if they breach the forum rules, or terms & conditions. I'd have nothing to moderate if everyone followed them! lol.

The MSC is amazing, and thumbs up to you all who have posted support for the membership program and the roles the admins play. Alot of stuff goes into the running of the MSC that many members will take for granted or not recognise.

I don't recall a single official member complaining about the membership package. If the sxoc club is so amazing, why don't you just stay there!

I like being here looking at other peoples micra's, but im not going to spend a tenner to do that.

You don't have to pay to view the forums, so what are you complaining about?

£10 is nothing, a few drinks in the pub (as long as your not driving of course) I am quite happy to pay £10 or £20 for a years membership. I never knew you could do some many mods to a Micra for a fairly cheap price. And questions I raise are answered being a novice with cars, even though I do have a Haynes manual. All I can do is fit CD players in Micras, I ain't paying someone to do that for me. Its a simple job :)

Ok this is simple.

Ever hear in the news about people who moan about cash machine charges in pubs, Post Offices and small shops etc...

Well thats exactly what you have here. People who want something for nothing, people who moan about the price of milk and eggs, people who forget that bank cash machines are still free, etc etc.

Its a shame to see a thread like this appear but i am glad it has not been locked as that would only exacerbate matters.

If only the government were as transparent as the running of this site, keep up the good work Kev, James, Ed, Arnold and anyone else i havent mentioned and remember, the forums are only as 'alive' as YOU make them! :)

the main reason i didnt renew my membership is because im lazy.

and id probably have it returned with a note saying "no thanks".

but hey. a tenner is nothing for what you get here. Cant put a price on some of the bozos ive met. apart from ollie. and i'd go for 10p.

Cheers for all the positive comments from everyone, thats great to see! (not that I really do much here any more!)

The above post coudn't be any closer to the truth, I have very few if any negative comments at all from official members regarding the membership and what they get for the ££'s, it's only those that expect it all for free that seem to post up these threads.

Just to let you know I will be reviewing the entire club structure and the way things are operated here for both official members and non members and changes will be made if deemed necessary.

thanks
Kev
