Gearbox differences, HELP.

Can anyone tell me at what age, or reg letter, did nissan change the design of the gearboxes in the 1.0 or 1.3. I'm on my second micra and have been through gearboxes in them both.
Do the later cars e.g from P, R and S reg models have stronger gearboxes, as i need another replacement.
Cheers anyone.
Simon

No theyre all #### weak, the mainshaft bearing lets go first followed by the diff ripping chunks out of the wallowing mainshaft.
Fit a Sunny 1.4 or 1.6 Gearbox as fitted to the GA14 or GA16DE. Go for the GA16 and that will be plenty strong enough, im pretty sure the input shaft pitch is the same as a CG pilot bushing and clutch assembly. Im sure the bellhousing bolts are the same, the starter motor, however is at the front of the box as opposed to the rear so you would have to extend your wiring to fit its new location at the front of the car.

No - its at the back.

1.3 gearboxes are apperenty stronger then 1.0. Ive also heard the obxes gotstronger from 98 or something, could be wrong though

You should only have gearbox problems if you're running a turbo and therefore a lot more torque than standard. I'm making plenty more than standard power/torque and am still on the original standard clutch and gearbox.

i havent seen many gear box problems on here so cant be that weak,,infact this is the first i heard of them being crap

Again do you lot want my advice or what? Im sick of trying to give advice and getting it thrown back or poo poo`d! Look ive been a Nissan tech for 10 years and I work for Middlehurst where im a Skyline and 350 Specialist before this I spent many years and 1000`s of K11`s and K10`s over the years. I have attended regular training at NMGB in Watford and I have personally first hand diagnosed and rebuilt hundreds of boxes over the years. I can go into the reasons why Nissan boxes are generally very weak if anyone cares to hear this. Nissan use NSK bearings or NTN bearings both of which are very good but boxes still fail no one really knows why? I can say one thing, that being that the main component to fail is the bottom mainshaft bearing generally if the cage doesnt collapse and the box is noisy you will find severe pitting on the bearings and discolouration of the transmission oil.

Please if I am to remain on this forum is it too much to ask for a bit of respect? After all you have a valuable member in the form of myself and I will stop coming on here if you keep poo pooing my comments.

Also may I say that my comments are valid, a massive number of K11`s year after year come into most Nissan dealers for faults within the transmission, if you idiots actually worked in a dealership for Nissan then you would understand that this is the case then you wouldnt make misinformed, no idea at all comments. Just because your particular K11 has an excellent box dont assume that they are all excellent. Go on the GTIR forum and tell them that Nissan boxes are strong theyll laugh at you.

If you are to remain on this forum you will treat other members with respect. The only posts i see on here are other people's experiences and at no stage has anyone thrown your advice back at you. It is up to the member that has created the thread to decided which bit of advice they would like to believe and follow.

Myself and Dave (aka Lowrider) own micra's that are far from standard (100bhp +). Both of us have still got the same gearboxes and clutches that were originally fitted to the car. I can't talk about the life Dave's car has had but as my car was the Nissan Motorsport demo car and was given out as a press car for 3 years and within my ownership the gearbox has received a very hard life and its still going strong. Although the box has problems from going to fourth to third it is still strong and tight after 9 years of abuse. Therefore i would say the gearbox's are able to withstand the abuse given to them however they are not without their flaws.
