Gear Crunching

MICRA FTW!
Hi every just a quick question, to see if anyone has ever had this problem. Basicaly when I am down shifting from 3rd to 2nd i occasionaly (and its starting to happen more and more) get a crunch sound.

I know for a fact that i have the clutch fully engaged. Im also not exactly slamming it into gear. I just dont know what it could be!!!

Any help would be brilliant,

Thanks AGAIN lol

i had this on my work van before and the clutch needed adjusting but it could be something inside the gearbox so wait for a better reply ;)

Try adjusting the clutch...

But sounds like the syncro like Frank has said...happens all the time to almera gti boxes, just had mine changed as i couldnt live with it, both my gti's have done the same thing now, too much downshifting :)

As Frank says 2nd gear syncro ring,

Play around changing into second gear more slowly, with practise you should be able to do it without the crunch.

By the way you mean with the clutch fully disengaged.

ah ha i see, thanks for your help guys. Well yeah it doesnt do it all the time, it just happens occasionaly. How much would a new gear box cost (just incase)??

I've had this happen occasionally changing into third, but I don't exactly waste any time changing gear. I'm hoping I just lifted my foot off the clutch slightly too early i.e. before the gear was fully engaged

New box would be bundles, and I'm always sceptical of these firms that advertise "reconditioned" boxes which I expect are just secondhand, checked & cleaned boxes...
You could get a price from a gearbox specialist to replace the synchro. You might find it would not cost a lot more than taking a chance with a secondhand box from E Bay/breakers.Got to be careful,I've had planty of K11's with noisy boxes, must be the deaf old dears driving them around at 40MPH in first gear before we get hold of them & thrash them to bits...
