Found excellent suppliers and fitters of K11 hoods.

Hi all.

If you are in Ireland, try Danny at Car Hoods Ireland. http://www.carhoodsireland.ie/Nissan.html He has a supplier who makes these to order. He's a really friendly, helpful chap.

He gave me some great advice for a supplier in England, which is Car Hoods Northern. http://carhoodsnorthern.co.uk I spoke to a man named Vic and this company could not have been more helpful. Usually you would have to take your car to the get the hood fitted and wait a few days until it is done. Not so here. Once the hood has arrived, the fitter will bring your hood down to you and fit it there and then, if possible. If not, they will take it away on a low-loader and do it for you over a couple of days.

The sub-contracted fitter who came to see me is called Joe and he is from Eiite Windscreens and Softops (07711 767972). He has 40 years' experience. He did a lovely job on my micra and it's great to have confidence that there are professionals out there who do specialise in replacing these hoods and do a great job for a competitive price. It cost under £1000, all in, for everything and has a year's guarantee. Fab!

I will add some pics eventually, but I hope this information is useful for others who may be needing a new roof before the winter! :)

Hi have you still got the original glass rear window if so I would be interested in buying it off you, please could you post some pic of your Cab with it's new roof?

Cheers
Andy :)

After a couple of years how do you feel about your hood now? My experience with Vic and Carhoods Northern didn't end well.
They said they would bond my old heated glass window into the new hood so I agreed to the deal, they collected my car then after a few days told me the new hood would have a plastic back window. Vic tried to persuade me plastic was better and by then we were too far down the road to back out anyway. They delivered it back and it leaked like a sieve, so I called to complain, they sent out a fitter to adjust it. I demonstrated the leak by sprinkling it with a hose pipe, and after half a day messing about taking screws in and out etc he gave in and arranged to have it taken back to the factory. When I spoke to Vic he said the fitter had said I was really squirting it hard with the hosepipe (which I wasn't, I was just spraying it from above ) I reminded him that at 70mph on the motorway it would get water a lot harder them me just making it rain from above with a hose. I could tell he thought I was being difficult and unreasonable. Eventually it came back and didn't leak so I was quite pleased though it didn't quite look as wide as the original and the back window was nearly always misted up, dirty or both. After a few months it started leaking again and the material was wearing thin over the seams from rubbing as it went up and down. After about a year it jammed in the open position as I tried to close it outside the pub in the dark one night. It was in the middle of the peak district at midnight so I had to get it home. I managed to get it close enough to fully open again to drive it safely back. In the morning I removed all the trim I could find and discovered the material had got wound into the mechanism at both sides, presumably because it wasn't properly located on the frame. It was impossible to dismantle all of it but when I finally did get it out I found the mechanism had bitten a piece about 1.5 inch by 0.5 inches out of one side and made a 0.5 in hole in the other side of the material Now after about 2 years water pisses in near the front corners soaking the seats when it's parked in the rain the material is badly worn in a number of places and I can never see through the back window.

I take it you mean when you are ordering a new hood?
When I was looking for one I investigated importing one from Japan. I found they were (at that time) available but after including shipping and import duty it cost as much as importing another car!

Has anybody else tried the Irish Danny supplied hoods? My Carhoods northern cover is all but knackered already, much of the internal gluing has come away now too.
