Engine Management Light

Hey guys,

Im not sure if this has been discussed on her before but the engine management light has come on in my micra. Its a Y reg 1.4 se+.

I bought the car on saturday and has been going great up until now, it does have a small exhaust leak and a very small water leak (really nothing to worry about).

I have heard that the light can come on because of the MAF sensor?!?

Any help would be great.

Also is there a way to pull the fault code without a ODB-II reader?

Cheers in advance

When I had a 1.4 K11, the EML came on at about the same mileage; my Nissan garage diagnosed a faulty cat. The car sailed through every emissions test it ever had and the light was still on when I part exed it at 107,000 miles .

Thats good to know. Cheers. It does still seem fine to drive. I will maybe look into getting a code reader as my other car is ODB-II as well.

Cheers

Cheers frank. Tried the technique on that site, but couldnt get it to work.
Do you know if i have to short the two pins before doing all the accelerator pushing?
Cheers

Had a look on there. It would seem that my car is too new to "flash" the error codes on the dash so i will need to find a code reader.
Cheers for your help

I never had success shorting the pins on my SE+. Cheap eBay code readers do the job if you want one to keep. As long as they can read ISO9141 on OBDII.

What's the betting this is p0171?
Welcome to my world

maf? chin up dave, i got a lump in my throat when i read your post.

I had an eml light come on in my 51 plate 1.4, local nissan specialists read the code and said pre cat lambda sensor, took the car home, disconnected the battery for about four hours, also did a minor service as it was due, plugs, oil and filter and new airfilter, no more eml problems in over 4000 miles......

Haha, nah my MAF and front lambda have both been replaced at least twice with no effect. Either all the MAFs are dodgy (which I wouldn't doubt too much) or I need to find the cash to change my throttle body sometime before the violent juddering starts again.
