Driver door switch mystery

Hi All;

My K11 is year 94, 1.3, 3-door (March).

The rubber boot on door switch on driver side was worn so want to scrappy and got a replacement. Perfect fit.

Now some new mysterious behaviour, can you please help explain it?

1. leave keys in ignition, open driver door - no beeping (buzzer) sound
2. turn headlights on, open driver door - no beeping sound
3. open driver door, no room light

Here's the funny thing:

1. open passenger door, leave keys in ignition, open driver door - BEEP
2. open passenger door, turn lights on, open driver door - BEEP

3. Open car via Central Locking, open driver's door, drive, all door locks automatically (i.e. doesn't recognise that the door was opened).

Put back old part and new problem still exists!!

Please help!

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply davyboy, like to let you know that the problem was solved.

The issue was that, even though the original door switch and the replacement one look identical, the internal operation of the switches are different.

The switch has 3 pins, like this:

I
I I

In the original switch (from 94 March), when depressed (door open) Left pin becomes grounded, and top and right pins become connnected.

In the replacment switch (from 99 Micra), when depressed (door open) Top pin is grounded and the right and left pins become connected.
