Does anyone know anything about Mercs?

The parents 2006 C180 Komp. S.R.S. Light on
This happened before, took it to dealer, said it was the pressure sensor in the passenger seat or something lke that? but anyway they turned the light off and said the fault most likely wouldnt come back... Thats fine they say

Light stays off for 2 or 3 months... problem solved :)

Over the last week or two the light begins to come on only when the passenger seat is being used and is off when its empty, then the last 3 days the light is just always on again...

Put simply - if i just plug out the connection for the seat sensor will this turn the light out? Or is there any other quick fix apart from pay the 's'tealer to replace the sensor?

Your all going to call me a monster for not being prim and proper with safety but this is in fact this is ther first car with airbags, and nobody had airbags until 8-10 years ago, so they arent too fussed if they work or not, being old they probably dont plan on being in a crash lol.. i just want the light off, dont care if they work or not lol....

stumped fwn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(and no, i dont have M.B. airbag software, costing 4 figures to buy wouldnt be worth it lol)

doubt just unplugging it would work, most safety systems are 'fail safe', meaning if the connector comes off of the wire breaks the light comes on. most likely is that the connector will need linking out

Bridging it out won't work as they are designed to operate between certain ohms. By bridging it out you will bring the light on too as the resistance will be too low.
besides, under the seat there will be a few different connectors, you will only know what ones to bridge out if you have the Merc workshop manual. You also run the risk of firing the pretentioners or side airbags.

If you fire either of them you will have to change the SRS ECU too (About £700 from Merc).

Best to take it to an independant Merc specialist who should be able to source a decent second hand sensor. Its a seat use sensor, designed to estimate the weight of the occupant ('Cos if you are bigger the airbags will need to inflate more) Its a common problem as the contacts inside peel apart and short out.

No. As far as I know they are very thin and sealed up.
Did Merc give you the actual fault code? We have access to the Merc dealer intranet so I might be able to get you the checking procedure for the code.

They didnt give me the code, but id asume they have it on record... i'l give a ring tomorrow and see and post back here...
great help though, thanks mate :D

Was in Mercedes today (Blagging tea, cable ties and gear oil!) and I asked about this problem.

It is indeed a common problem. The part, a large flat sensor which fits into the bottom part of the front seat is about £90 (trade) from Merc themselves.

The part can be fitted in place if you don't mind shuffling about under the seat but you will need a scanner to put the SRS light out.
Any garage with a decent fault code reader (Launch, Bosch, Snap on Solus etc.) should be able to do this for £20 or so.

I didnt see this post while on earlier?!
That was really very nice of you to even remember that in the course of your day so let me start off with a THANK YOU
Id asume thats 90 plus VAT, seems a reasonable price to pay not to be dead in a crash lol, and id have no problem giving it a bash myself fitting it, so i shall ring Merc and order it tomorrow first thing...
Shouldn't the light just go out then when the car is started with the sensor replaced? Only one way to find out with nothing to loose i suppose lol, thanks again mate :D
