crank sensor seized

Has anyone removed a crank sensor from a K11 (2001)? I have removed the fan and coolant hoses to get good access but I can't shift it. Am I right in thinking it is an interference fit and it should just pull out? The background is that the car won't start and the man with the computer said there was no rpm reading on his computer.

It is a low mileage car (50K) that has no right to die.....
