Took a couple of coils of the front, felt a bit 'tighter' to drive

Might have to beef up the rear mount maybe?

Got a map sensor of my mate to play with for free...........along with his old redline developments ecu for free..........only catch is he thinks the injector coils have fried on it, surely must be repairable?

Got the ecu.....looks ok to me, I'm hoping it was down to the previous wiring attempt on the plugs that was giving my friend the issues, he seemed to think the ignition drivers had burnt out

Either way, il use this to make up the loom and stuff, it's exactly the same as my old ecu that was on the k10 (now mini)

If it don't work, at least it'll just be a case of replace the ecu

Bought a 165/45/15 tyre to see what it'll look like on these wheels.......think it'll be ok with more lows

And a pack of shims of frank

Now gotta fit them lol

Gunna take note of the shims height, and guess il move/grind them about till I get the right clearances

...........what should I be getting and where should I be taking measurements from?

Also......cam bloke said to put the shims under the bucket......there's a raised part under there, do I have to cut/grind a bit outa the new shims so they sit flat inside

you have to bevel/shamfer the top edge around the lower shim neil, there is one in the set iirc
and a 10" thou feeler when the lobe is at 12 o,clock

Il have a look.

Don't have to worry about the centre bit then?

Also......I've got what clearances to look for.........but no idea of where to check

when the lobe is off the bucket there should be a gap neil, if there is no gap the valve will be held open (no compression)

frank

Club Member
and juggle the shims around to get a 10" thou gap, and if the gap is too tight grind a tad off the middle of the shim (where that pip you asked about makes contact)

Because I'm a child and impatient, I started the engine as it is

I let it rev in its own for 10-15 mins to warm it up

Is a bit tappy, so will definitely have to swap some shims about.

Went for a quick drive......above what I think is 2-3k, it goes mental lol

What I have noticed though is it doesn't get as hot as quickly as it did......with the old cam, even after a short drive, the rocker cover would be roasting hot.....now after the same length drive it's cooler,

Not sure what that means , but must be better for the engine

Just ordered trigger wheel and does edis Kit, so can start wiring up new ecu

Really wanna get these itbs on

if they are the 270deg 10mm lift ones they are quite an aggressive profile neil (jerking the valves open and shut) which is why i set mine at about 10" thou (.25mm) and they have been known to spit shims out (i ended up running with both shims under the bucket to avoid it)
geoff,s other profile is the old mini 544, which looks less aggressive but more laggy

These are 274 degrees and 0.355 lift......what he recommended with all the other things I've done and going to put on

Il have to whip out the cams again and see what these top shims are.....then figure out the correct sizes and get back to you mate.......maybe next week if I can find the time

Got keys to new workshop so will be busy moving that about for a while now

Got some bits through

Trigger wheel, crank sensor .....and ford coil pack

The ecu I've got on the mini is the same as this.......I'm using the micra coil packs driven by the ecu........surely I can do the same with this thing (I don't have the edis module)

fire the micra coilpacks semi sequential neil ?

I don't have any micra coil packs mate (on the mini)

......and that cam plate I got from you has gone walkabouts

Apparently I can run the ford coil pack straight from the ecu

Is it.......

+ from ignition to heater
Signal to ecu
- chassis to heater

paul says that the 2 black wires are heater + and earth neil, but i was under the understanding that they are both heater + wires and earthed through the body ?

Spose I should get 12v on both wires then?

Had a spare afternoon so I've roughly wired up the plugs

I've kept all the old micra stuff in its place, just disconnected for this test

This ecu I got was for free.....coz he thought the injector drivers were shot.........I think he's right I've put 12v leds in the plugs .....when I crank, the laptop says it's sending the pulse.....but nothing happens at the plugs......dam........need to buy another ecu

It's the Ignition driver that's dead on this ecu
So......

Borrowed the ecu from the mini.....it's the same one

So just plugs and plays.

Loaded up a generic n/a map

And...........

It works, on the itbs, running it on alpha-N at the moment,

It's idles like ****, don't think the cam helps

Took it for a drive, only works if you floor it.....shifts though!

Few problems to sort, the trigger wheel is cutting into the chassis leg
Need to remove the dizzy, but had to keep it plugged in for now until I find the fuel pump wire (think you need rotation from dizzy to make pump stay on?)

Need to strip the micra loom way back too, only things I've got plugged in from micra loom are dizzy plug, wiper motor, and heater for o2 sensor, the rest is unplugged.......it's a mess
