Cleaning my engine bay

Hello!

I'm looking to clean my engine bay,nothing too fancy like all chrome parts etc,but its just overed in dirt and grease.Just wanna clean it up abit,maybe add coloured hoses etc and paint my rocker cover.

I heard using de-greaser? and a pressue washer will help get more dirt off.Will excessive amounts of water damage my engine?

I've got an engine de greaser, comes in an orange spray can but i can't remember what it's called! Very good though. Spraying the engine shouldn't cause problems, just try to avoid direct contact with electrical items / battery / dizzy / coil etc.

I didn't use a jetwash, I bought some kitchen degreaser from tesco (cos i'm well cheap) left it on for a minute and wiped it off, worked really well and only cost me 79p, better than the 15 quid engine degreasers.

the best de-greaser that i have ever used is swarfega jizer
swarfega also make handwash etc
although i have never used it on my engine it does say suitable for car engines.
it retails about £20 for 5ltrs and trust me that will last ages.

i have jetwashed an engine before. it didnt work very well to be honest. (Car was fine though).

When i used to valet cars we used to use traffic film remover, basicly acid, brush it in and steam off (we also had a high presure steamer) very quickly.

Did you read my thread on my clean engine bay? I used hose covers and cleaned it a bit, next I'm gunna paint the rocker cover.

same as what i do when i valet cars on saturdays altough the stuff i use is called acid cleaner (very good on alloys with bad brake dust crosion etc) also have some degreasr but very rarely used. both would be idea for engine bay cleanning.....also i once brought some autogylm engine bay cleaner (just degreser) engine bay cleanning products are just bassiclly degreaser anyway.

wouldnt acid cleaners eat gasket if they wernt rinsed off properly?

GUNK is the stuff u need....when i re-build my engine i will be using it to clean my engine bay...then jet wash!!
