Check Engine Light

Hi
My orange 'check engine' light is flashing rapidly. The car seems to be running fine - any ideas what the problem could be?

if you have a haynes manual read up on the diagnostic process, it involves shorting 2 pins on the diagnostic port under the dash, and depending on the amount and sequence of flashes, it tells you the problem. im not 100 percent sure on the pins to short or the amount/sequence of flashes so until i can get home to read my haynes, i wont put up false info, unless someone else can help out here.
