CG13 in K10.

Hi,

I've been really irritated by my cars lack of power as of recent, and am seriously considering swapping my engine.

I don't want anything too big (1.6), but would prefer to put in a CG13 in out of a K11.

If I fit the K11 hubs, would the K11 driveshafts fit straight in aswell?

If not, then the usual custom driveshafts, engine mounts and wiring would be involved too.

As I've read before, a CG13 hasn't apparently been put in a K10 yet. Does anybody (Wayne/Ed?) think it would be reasonably straight forward?

Thanks,
-Elliot

it can be relatively straight forward job
but to be honest ifg i was to tdo it. i would gut the car
rip out the full wiring loom and insert the WHOLE k11 loom. then get all the connectors fitting etc..

the you will need something liek alandrover electric fuel pump v6/v8 poss. situated preferebaly as near to the tank as possible.. the driveshafts should fit fine with out much worry.

you will need to modify the mounts as per said.
u WILL also have to weld up the gear linlageARM ( 1 THING I MUST ADMITT I OVER LOOKED) simple proceedure of dog legging it but time consuming and more things to be put on top of hecticness.

the box mount will be fine
though you may find that you ill have to install the x member under the engine aswell as this may be slightly off. .

but the shafts should be kool as the drive is the same distance apart

its a conversion i will do in time. though i also plan on having micra for the rest of my life now.lol
thats how much i love my k10 :p

i just think they are excellent cars. ahhaha

a line of k10's with laods of different engien tranplants would be kool

lol

Thanks for your help again Wayne. :D I will probably get a crash damaged low mileage 1.3, and use the engine, box and loom from it.

I will however need to buy a cheap run-about while it's being done. o_O

Cheers mate :D

Elliot - it's been a while but me and j.a.kelly stripped a SuperS while ago and j.a.kelly enquired about getting the wngine and the guy said it was fine as it only had side damge, the place also has a ton of other micras.

If you need more info get in touch.

Yup, mine is staying forever too, just need to keep changing it to keep myself interested, id like the CG13 too, although if theres a 1.4 litre twin cam engine that will go in, id like to know about it...

Hi Goldstar,

I wouldn't mind contact details of this guy please? :)

I would probably be after buying a crash damaged car, as I will take the engine, box, driveshafts, loom, and hubs. If I bought a complete car, I would probably get too attached to it... and decide to drive that instead. o_O

elliot i'm gonna be boosting the power of my k10 in the summer with a cg13 engine. just need to find someone to do it for me

Hi Mark,

Sounds good. :) I'm going to be doing the conversion myself. I don't really have enough room in my back garden to leave another car stranded... so would probably have to do it on a ramp at work.

micra man -

1.find me someone who will do it.
2.give me a rough price
3.be patient til the summer
4.i'll have it done

That is definately the best way to do it, a lot less hassle than any other way

I've been thinking, and have had a change of heart. I think I will be leaving my K10 as it is for now, and come November time when my insurance is renewed I will buy a super turbo engine.

I know a few people have said in the past that they will do this, and inevitably haven't. I have said I'll fit a super turbo engine at the end of this year, so that I shall do.

I'll source one through a good friend of mine who imports cars and parts from Japan.

I have become too attached to my little K10, and as such can't bear to see it go for another car. I was thinking about buying either an older scooby turbo, or a cheap standard GTi-R come insurance renewal time... but can't bear to see my K10 go. I certainly do need more power, as going from an Escort RS Turbo to fund my Skyline and having to buy a cheaper car (K10) is a bit of a power downgrade.

Does anybody know how much Super Turbo engine's will cost? I will definitely be importing one at the end of the year, and know that the topic of prices of Super Turbo engine's doesn't come up very often. :)

So much for my CG13.

Cheers,
-Elliot

buy a super turbo! makes no sense just buying an engine, parts would be a nightmare,

i was offered a ST for 2300 so i would have thought you'd be better off gettin the whole car especially when yours is so basic.

aint really worth the hassle droppin a st engine in you k10 when u could just have a whole complete car

Mark,

I like the way my car is. It has the Super S seats, Super S spoiler, Super S dials and the other parts, but I'm getting a Super S rear bumper in just over 2 weeks, along with the Super S sideskirts, Super S door cards and Foah front bumber and a facelift front.

Seeming as though the Super Turbo has pretty much the same bodykit as the Super S apart from the front bumper and front grill... I think it would be a much better and cheaper option for me to just import an engine with the box and loom. :D

Plus that way... what I was originally saying, I wouldn't have to see my K10 go anytime soon. :D

Elliot getting an engine on its own would be no use to you what so ever. You have no idea of the kind of things that you will need to go with it - and are only made for the ST!! Not wanting to be a kill joy, but without everything there will be no hope, it would be far easier to turbo your engine.

i would get a super turbo if i had the money and could get insured on it.

ed do you know anyone who could do a cg13 transplant for me?

Not anyone I can say really mark, I do everything like that myself so for actual contacts who could do that I dont really know!!

Ed

Hi Ed,

I can see where you are coming from. Generally I cannot see a problem if I buy the whole engine, with the gearbox and the FULL wiring loom. The driveshafts will obviously fit, and I'll get a set of K11 hubs on with some GTi-R calipers.

If I cannot source a Super Turbo engine, chances are I will just get a Figaro Turbo engine. I have never driven a Figaro before, but one of the lads who I work with at work has. He said that they aren't quick at all, but nothing a little work wouldn't sort out. :)

-Elliot

Again unless you have all the body mounted ancillaries it will still be not alot of good, further to that you will need a wiring loom, the engine loom heavily connects in to the cars loom in a way I as yet honestly dont know as I have never had to look yet! Normal K10 driveshafts will not fit a ST gearbox. If you stick to normal K10 box you will need to get a massivly uprated clutch - and dont expect the gearboxes to last long :)

Figaros are not fast due to the fact they are relativly heavy and also have auto box. Not to metion the engine is a non intercooled one running only 0.5bar of boost!!

Ed

Hi Ed,

I have yet to decide on anything concrete yet. I will be buying the engine, the ST box and wiring loom. I suppose I will have to get the driveshafts then. Would the ST driveshafts fit into the K10/K11 hubs, or would these need to be changed aswell?

I will be going ahead with this I believe. I am a mechanic myself although I must admit, I have never been very good at electrics... but one of my work collegues at work is much more experienced than me. I suppose he would be able to give me a lift wiring the loom up. :)

-Elliot

You will need drive shafts, without a doubt. I dont think the driveshafts will fit the other end of the K10/K11 hubs they are I think quite different. The whole front end is on the ST even the suspension and wishbones are a little too. You cant get wiring diagrams for the ST that is as far as i know. That will be very hard with nothing else to go on.

Ed, I suppose I can only give it a go. I will only be carrying this out at around November/December time... so only time will tell if I change my mind.

Probably my best bet would be the cherry turbo engine to be honest. I was about to buy a Langely Turbo (Aussie version with pop-up lights), which is built on a cherry chassis with the turbo running gear. I don't know if he still has the car, as he was on about breaking it at the time... but I didn't want to be without another car.

I'll give this guy a call tommorow, and see if he's still got it. :)

Thanks for your help Ed. :)

-Elliot

Well it wont be too long untill your skyline is back on the road. Try get the Langley Turbo and just keep it untill you do get your skyline back up and running, that way you can enjoy having your skyline while you swop the engines from the Langley into the K10!
Just a thought!

cherry turbo is a much better idea - from almost every angle i can think of parts info etc etc etc...
