Car won't start - off petrol?

Car's been sat for a few years, tried to start it at the weekend, no dice. I have (weak) spark at the plugs and the pump appears to be pressuring the rail but it cranks without even trying to cough into life. Had a small leak from the pressure regulator (which sorted itself out) but the petrol smel very funny, a bit like kerosene/paraffin so I'm thinking this may have gone bad.

Question is, what's the best way to check I'm getting fuel into the cylinders and would it be the worst ide to crank it and tip a little bit of petrol down the throttlebody?

Cheers

Better off putting it dowb the spark plug holes. I'd drain the tank and get fresh fuel in :)
Also look into that weak spark too it won't help
